Low Carb / Intermittent Fasting

My husband and I are both doing low carb diets, staying at/around 50 carbs per day- with the majority of those coming from fruits/veggies. He was reading up online about intermittent fasting and the benefits, but he wanted to take it to the extreme. I thought a 16-8 would be the healthiest approach, where he wants to go for 24-36 hours without eating.
Has anyone done either of these that could shed some light on the pros vs cons and recommendations? We're both pretty overweight and both looking to lose 30-40lbs. We are fairly active and in the heat all day.
Thank you kindly in advance for any insight!

It's best to avoid fasting if you are working out everyday day.
Limiting calories by 2-500 according to your BMR is better choice.
Slow and gradual progress is better in my opinion. But, got to have patience.0 -
I've read up on IF but never seen any IF schedule like what your husband is proposing... I don't think that is sustainable. What is his reasoning?
I really like the 16:8 plan. I've been doing it fairly consistently now for about six weeks.0 -

His reasoning is simply to shred his 30-40lbs as fast as possible and than maintain.0 -

He really should change his mindset.
That said, if he really wants to do IF, and wants to go about it that way, he may be interested in 5:2.0 -
Sounds like ADF (alternate day fasting) as IF tends to be more about the hours in a day rather than missing days.

Just as a side note... I never agreed with his reasoning. I think it's stupid, esp with his work schedule IN the heat. But he wont hear anything I have to say, so I was hoping some others that have tried this, done this or have some insight can give him some knowledge. He's watching Hulk-sized men on youtube saying they do this and he's dead set on it... Your body needs fuel.0

Tell him that intermittent fasting isn't going to make him lose any more weight, that comes from a caloric deficit - it really doesn't matter what you're eating.
Just because the bigger guys do it; it doesn't mean we all should.0 -
I like 16:8.
Let him do whatever he wants. He will stop the craziness in a week.0 -

I did alternate day IF for my weight loss phase, 5:2IF for the transition period between weight loss and maintenance, and then I currently do 16:8IF as part of my maintenance plan. I love IF, but weight loss really does come down to eating at an appropriate calorie deficit.0
