you enter the food items in the diary and it searches for the best match.

Add foods, search for foods by name.

I don't scan anything. Did you make this sandwich yourself or get it from a store, and if so, which one?

I had roast beef and swiss myself today. I got the info from the database. The first time I put in a food I verify it against the packages.

you use a food scale, weigh the bread, log it by looking up the brand and entering the serving size based on your food scale reading, then zero scale, add mayo and reweigh, log the mayo. Weigh the meats, log the meat...

What if it's daily grocery store lunch meat

Oh yeah, if your boyfriend gets upset at you for trying to take control of your own health, tell him he can very quickly be an EX boyfriend.

Then ask what brand it is, or if it is the store brand, that should be in the database too... like if I type safeway bologna into the database it pops right up.

almost all grocery store deli counters will let you have a peek at the nutrition label of the cold cuts. What I do is if I'm buying a new type of lunchmeat I've never had before I ask to see the label and I either scan the barcode right then and there or I take a picture of the nutrition label and input the information when I get home. You only have to do this once really as after that whenever you make a sandwich using that lunchmeat it will already be in your diary or in the database. I've never been told no I cant look at the label although I did get a chuckle and an alrighty then from the clerk, but I shrugged it off. no biggie.

Oh, and if you make the same sandwich all the time, save it as a meal. In the photo posted above, see the quick tools? If you click on that in your diary, you can save that meal for the future. Then you can just adjust it as needed. Use a bit more meat? Add the meal then click on the meat to edit the quantity.

You scan what you can. And that daily grocery store lunch meat, you just search lunch meat or Bologna. Sometimes you will be forced to guess. Try to use a food scale for the weight.

Have a discussion with the boyfriend - if he's getting upset over this it likely that he needs a BIG clue. Make scanning fun or let him know he doesn't get to give an opinion on it.

Glad to help, I've been at this way too long :) The easier you can make it, the more likely you are to log accurately.

Yes, there's a bit of time required in the beginning, but once all your common foods are in, it takes very little time.
