I'm convinced I have metabolic adaption! Help!

I don't know if I'm just falling under another impression of another thrown around lexicon, but I can't get out of my mind thinking I have metabolic damage.
First, does binging cause metabolic damage?
Would I only have it if I did a crash diet and cardio for 2hrs a day?
If I have been able to build muscle in the past 6months, does that mean I don't have metabolic adaptation?
I build muscle easily but lose fat super hard.
How can I unconvinced myself of having metabolic adaption if I don't have it. I've never successfully lost weight in the past.
(Yeah I measure and count-I'm more focusing on what is and is not metabolic adaption? And I've already seen the BioLayne videos)

You're all over the place....but I HIGHLY doubt you have "metabolic damage".

you dont build muscle in a deficit
According to your other posting you were trying to lose weight.
Don't try to things harder than it really is
And you didn't damage anything at all.
As explained before ( in the other tread)
Start weighing ALL your solid food create a deficit and you will lose weight just like everybody else.0 -

So what actually makes you think you have metabolic damage?0 -
metabolic adaptation is not the same thing as metabolic damage.
why exactly do you think you have metabolic damage?0 -
Everyone who's lost a considerable amount of weight has some degree of metabolic adaptation regardless of the way the loss happened. It's nearly inescapable. That can be combated by increasing non-exercise daily activities by building more active habits, and by building some muscle. It's not the end of the world. In your case, no you don't have it since you have never lost weight successfully (I'm reading this as losing a pound or two and regaining them, which isn't enough to cause metabolic adaptation).0

If you've watched Dr. Norton's videos then you know that metabolic adaptation (metabolic damage is a pretty sketchy idea) does not occur from a caloric surplus (binging results in a surplus). Also, you should know from his videos that it is not a permanent condition (so no, a crash diet and 2 hours of cardio will not cause you to have to live with a damaged metabolism).
In any case, you're building muscle which indicates that you're eating at or above maintenance so I highly doubt that your calories have been cut deep enough to cause metabolic adaptation when they're not even below maintenance levels.
ETA: Figure out a proper calorie goal for what you want to achieve. Weigh/measure everything you eat/drink and log it. Stick to your goals. Even if your metabolism has adapted to whatever crash diet you did before, it will stabilize with you eating proper amounts.
In other words, unless you're two weeks out from a competition, whether or not you have metabolic adaptation shouldn't affect what you do to reach your goals. If you've been eating 800 calories a day and your metabolism has adjusted, Dr. Norton would tell you to adjust your calorie goal to something realistic and give your body time to adjust. If you've been binging and eating 3,500 calories a day, your answer would still be to adjust your calorie goal to the same realistic number.0 -

why exactly do you think you have metabolic damage?
Just answer this please
Well the reason I failed the first time is because I thought eating below 1200 would ensure I would lose weight-and while I did, it was 5lbs a week and I knew that wasn't healthy. Then I heard you can have cheat meals/days once a week and that led to binging. And I heard that any eating disorder ruins your metabolism. Like BioLayne charted was that the first crash diet makes your metabolism slow down a lot and then Yoyo-ing makes it hard for metabolism to catch up and you just go through this thing of your metabolism never catching up to successfully lose the weight. (Did I interpret this wrong?)0 -
It's not your metabolism that's screwed it's your mind space
Throw away everything you think you know ...absolutely everything
Just focus on calories in...hitting your calories for a decent weight loss of around 1lb a week
Move more, lift heavy to feel good about yourself
If you're losing too much eat more
Just do that0 -
Do that for 2 months then reassess0

If I'm not mistaken, Dr. Norton even comes right out and says that metabolic adaptation doesn't even apply to the average dieter. Those videos are directed at already very lean individuals who have gone to extreme lengths for extended periods to get extremely lean for shows but have done so in a way that does more harm than good.
Forget about it. Set a proper calorie goal. Weigh/measure your food and log it. Succeed.0 -
thank you everyone! I feel like I've just been brainwashed by the media and all the fad diets/terms when I just need to make it simpler.0

You are not alone
30 years it took me to throw away all the noise, fads, tips and rubbish surrounding the dieting world
It doesn't matter
Strip your mind clean...ignore it all...all you need is fewer calories in that calories out ...once you have that down pat you can consider the science behind everything you thought you knew and decide whether it's got any element of truth in it
And some decent weight resistance to help preserve your LBM as you lose weight
But calories in < calories out

You're not alone in that! I've been through almost every diet in the book, and every time I'd start succeeding and plateau just a little bit, the "starvation mode" myth (which is similar, if not the same as "metabolic damage") would rear its ugly head from the mouths of anyone who had an opinion about it. It took me a long time to learn that sometimes, the scale doesn't move - and it's okay. It has nothing to do with accidentally eating 1100 calories one day instead of my normal 1200.0 -
Yes! It's incredible how many fad diet terms are abused on the web. Thanks again!0

No.
You don't.
BTW - try to forget everything you think you know about metabolism. Everything. All of it. You've got it all wrong. Every last bit.0 -
You will be successful eating fewer calories than you burn. There is no reason to convince yourself that you can't burn calories with moderate activity and exercise. Don't try to make this harder than it is. Give it 60 or 90 days then evaluate. Set your expectations for reasonable weight loss and expect your body to surprise you.0

No.Would I only have it if I did a crash diet and cardio for 2hrs a day?
Doing that will cause very rapid weight loss. Mostly of the bad kind.
If you are trying to do that and not losing weight, there is something extremely wrong with your logging.

No, you don't.0
