InBody Assessment Results - Wake Up Call!

So I had an InBody Assessment done yesterday, which is reportedly the second most accurate method of determining body composition. (the most accurate is the underwater weighing)
I'm 5'4" and 165 pounds and according to BMI, significantly overweight. However, I also have a medium-large frame and lift weights and so I figured I'd never weigh 120-130 pounds which is often suggested as "ideal" for a female of my height.
The assessment confirmed my suspicions and is close to other body fat assessments I had have done in the past. I found that I have 117 pounds of LEAN MASS and 29% body fat, which is right at the upper end of "Normal". Not anywhere near "Obese" as one might think. If you take that 117 pounds of lean mass and add say, 22% body fat to it (which is quite fit for a middle-aged female)
that's around 143 pounds. My goal is a little more relaxed than that, and the InBody assessment suggests I shoot for 152 pounds while maintaining my 117 pounds of lean mass.
I guess I'm just reiterating here that the scale is often bullsh*t. Even when I reach my goal of ~150 pounds that will still be considered "overweight" by many. I wear size 8 (U.S.) pants easily now, so imagine I will be comfortably in a 4/6 by then. Yep, practically obese!
Another cool thing about the InBody is I found out that because I have more muscle than average, I have a little bit higher BMR than I thought. It's 1516, so that's the new calculation I'll be using to figure my TDEE and what I should eat to achieve a deficit for fat loss.
Moar calories - yay!!!

I suspect that mine would show rather depressing numbers, but it sounds worth looking into.0

herdthinner - I think so. At least you'd know, right?
I had mine done at a store called Max Muscle. Not sure where you are located but it looks like they have stores located throughout the U.S.0 -
so, what is the wake up call takeaway?0

That the number on the scale only tells a small part of the story. Wake up call is to stop obsession with the number on the scale.
I always wanted to embrace this but this exercise made it real for me.0 -
I geek out over those numbers. I too suspected I had higher than average BMR and muscle mass and was glad when my suspicions were confirmed.
I had the InBody assessment too and thought it was rubbish until the results were almost identical to a Bod Pod BF assessment I had done. I also had caliper BF measurements done by a very popular local trainer who does them all the time. The caliper findings were way way off. I'll never trust a caliper BF reading again.
Enjoy your new, happy data.0 -
Did your insurance cover it or did you pay out of pocket? If you paid, would you mind sharing how much it was?0

Sorry ..I only glanced at the machine via google
Am I right thinking its a bio impedance analyser but at feet and hands?0 -
yep, body impedance. http://inbody.com/global/product/body-composition-analyzer.aspx Multifrequency apparently and claims 98% correlation with DEXA.0

I just found out a body pod is £40
I'm so interested0 -
DEXA is closer to £100 but gives you more info http://www.body-composition.co.uk/BodyCompositionPrice.html http://www.bodyscanuk.com/0

Interesting, I am 5'4" also and weigh 147 lbs, wear size 10 with large body frame. Have no idea what my real fat percentage is, scale tells me 35 %. But the mirror tells me where I am fat. You must be pure muscle with all that data!0

I am muscular, but I have huge bones compared to some women. I look at their little limbs and am jealous because my damn bones alone are larger than their bones + muscle + fat.
I got down to 149 for about ten minutes in 2012. Fit a size 6 easily, and some 4's.
