CHANGE YOUR MIND SET about food...anyone else agree?!

So my husband and I have recently gotten a trainer and he's AWESOME! We've really learned how to change our mind set about the way we think about and view food. I am really frustrated though and seeking to find some MFP friends that are on board with eating clean and working hard to get results. It seems like for the most part all I hear about on here is how people are struggling and really want results yet they aren't committed to changing their mind sets and making the CHOICE to choose better healthy foods. They continually post about how they just couldn't help themselves when tempted with other foods yet complain because the scale never moves and they aren't seeing results. I know that's what MFP is for to encourage others and share our frustrations but if you aren't making the changes or if you just give in all the time over and over of course you aren't going to get results.
I need some friends who are interested in what I am interested in. I am eating clean and loving it! I have seen MORE weight be shredded off my body since eating clean than I ever did just watching my calories and working out. Now I never even go over my calories or worry about. I work out according to what my trainer sees fit for me. I eat high protein, high fiber meals. I don't eat any condiments that have calories, and there are LOTS of alternatives for this. I drink protein shakes 2-3 times per day. I eat 5-6 meals per day. I am drinking over a gallon of water a day. I cut out all sugar unless it's in fruit and I don't eat it after 12PM. I just don't understand why people, who desperately say they wanna change, they wanna change, they wanna get fit, yet constantly make poor choices and post about it all the time.
It's a CHOICE! Choose to change! Choose to set a goal and stick to it! Choose to do what other people aren't doing so that you can do what other people wish they could do!
Anyone else out there feel the same frustrations? Any one else out there interested in encouraging others who are committed to working hard and remaining focused on the goal, the goal of changing the way we look at food, our lives and living a healthy life style what ever it takes? If so feel free to friend me! I am a great encourager and love encouraging others. But if you are constantly encouraging and the other person never changes a thing....well it gets old.

I keep hearing about eating clean. I want to know what this means? I am definitely ready for a real change. Yes I am seeing progress but not true progress b/c I have allowed myself to cheat. I am finally ready to stay on track and work hard for it. I ran my first 5k 3 weeks ago and realized that I can do this and I have to stop making excuses for myself.
Do you have tips on eating clean and is there a free website with information on this?0 -
Yes, I agree with you whole heartedly..........
Be prepared for a bunch of backlash from posting this as when you strike a nerve with people reading it they will lash out at you with their excuses as to why "everything in moderation" is best for them...................I have said it before. I believe the everything in moderation mantra is just an excuse to face changing of the mindset.
That is why there are so many yo-yo dieters. Failure to change the mindset and keeping with the addictiveness of the foods they are eating.
In order for there to be a success, there has to be change.

and i would like to add that "eating clean" doesn't mean that you will never make mistakes or you will never eat anything "unclean" ever again. It just means that your normal everyday diet consists of mostly clean food! and it's the "normal".0 -

I can see both sides of the argument:
I made the choice to eat at In N Out last night. I ordered my cheese burger protein style (no bun, wrapped in lettuce instead) and I got the fries too. All in all it was about 600 cals. But I made the choice to order something out of the norm for me and better for me vs what I would normally order. I was still over by 250 calories at the end of the night.
I still like to have a beer now and then and I have changed my drinking to moderation as opposed to 'the kid's asleep and now it's my time to relax for the evening' a beer a night routine. I still want to indulge, but indulge in moderation.
Every diet faces temptation and it's up to you on how you handle your temptation. For me there are certain foods I really love to eat and when I'm faced with them I have a huge inner battle, sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. It just depends on how you battle your temptations.0 -

You know how some relationships have their one cheat with a movie star or someone famous? My cheat is In-n-Out Burger! Thank, God I live in Colorado, and the closest In-N-Out is an 11 hour drive (St. George, UT)! I think if I lived in California, I would eat there 2-3 times a week! I'm doing great on Atkins, but, I don't know if I could resist my double double and go protein style---even I have my weak moments!0

I think that a lot of people (I can include myself for many, many years) tell themselves that they're on a diet when they want to lose weight. The problem is, when the diet is over, they (me) go back to eating like they did before.
I approached it this time like I did when I quit smoking. I don't ever want to have to go through that again, and in order to NOT go through it again, I have to change my lifestyle and realize that I'm not on a diet. I will be eating this way for the rest of my life and I don't feel the least bit deprived. And I like to exercise and will continue to exercise as much as I am now. I sleep soooooo well every night now.0 -

Nothing wrong with protein style on occasion. I do eat Hardee's (Carl Jr's) Angus Thick burgers or grilled chicken club protein style on occasion................0 -
I'm with you! I have been eating clean for a few weeks now and I feel more comfortable and confident than I have in 12 years. I got my swagger back big time. I'm committed to lifting weights and eating healthy and am loving the changes that I see. My MIND SET has changed!0

You can totally do this girl! It's really easier than people make it out. I believe in you too! You just have to change your mind, which it sounds like you have, to make those true changes and change the way you view food and nutrition!
Here's the website that I recommend. She has TONS of wonderful and clean recipes! It's basically eating NO processed foods what so ever. Not even deli meats. We now buy chicken breasts and cook them and slice them up for our wraps for lunches. It's about not consuming sugar unless it's natural as in fruit. I truly hope this helps you! Totally agree! The normal way of life and eating for me now is clean. But we do schedule and plan cheat meals once in awhile which actually boosts our metabolisms and curves any cravings that we may have for unclean foods simply because after eating them you don't feel well.0

Agreed! It's totally about a lifestyle change! That's truly changing your mind set! I want to live like no one else (not giving into the American way of over eating and indulging in unhealthy foods) so that I can live like no one else enjoying being active, youthful and healthy as long as I can!0

Food was my substitute for living before I knew that it could fuel my dreams. See my profile, add me as friend if you like. I get results, consistent amazingly fun results. I enjoy my food, I am never hungry, have no cravings any longer except for good fuel! That and the company of like minded, strength training, happily-ever-aftering folks. My husband and I have been eating grass-fed milk, meat, poultry, and eggs almost exclusively for over 5 years. If this is what you mean by "clean" than I am with you. What you mean by "clean"?
Any food that is a protein that is grown an a farm that people buy at the supermarket today is over loaded with Omega 6 Fat and vastly deficient in Omega 3 fat. Protein foods that people buy at the supermarket today are what is making you fat. That is why you hear Drs on TV telling you week after week to eat more fish. Fish is the only food with with Omega 3 that a person can buy at a supermarket. And not all fish are high in Omega 3. Only deep cold water fish is high in Omega 3. Not shellfish of any kind. Not tropical fish. Salmon, Tuna, Cod, Herring, etc and fresh water Trout. these are the ones to eat. But nobody wants to eat fish every day. So you have to eat something else. Any meat producing animal that is fed corn is going to be overloaded with Omega 6 and have almost no Omega 3. All meat in a supermarket is fed corn.
We buy all our meat, milk , and eggs direct from a farmer. He has a completely grass-fed dairy herd that produces healthy milk and meat. He has a flock of free-range chickens that eat grass and bugs like chickens should.
So we eat clean. Really clean. This means I have to cook everything from scratch. But we are healthier than almost anyone we know our age. Neither of us takes any heart medicine or cholesterol medicine or blood pressure medicine.0 -

I completely agree for the most part, I just would like to know where you stand on people who eat clean, work out hard and are still stuck? I have never been a junk food eater, don't eat sugar, processed food, fizzy drinks etc, but have been stuck at 140lbs for over a month. Any suggestions?0

Yes, yes, yes. My whole goal now is to eat "real food". Of course I need and want to loose weight, but I'm also looking at the bigger picture of feeling healthier, stronger and living longer.
I highly recommend anyone who is interested in this way of eating check out books by Michael Pollan. Start with Food Rules - its a quick read!0
