Coffee with lots of milk?
Hi there guys and gals!
I have a question. I have kind of a coffee addiction. I had no problem removing the additional spoon of sugar out off my diet. But I love coffee with lots of milk. In my coffee mug will be 2/3 coffee and 1/3 milk. I can drink up to 200-500ml of 1,5% milk in a day this way.
I am already drinking water and tea the rest of the time, but I kinda don't want to miss out on my coffee and I don't really like it with much less milk.
Do you know any low calorie things to take instead? I'm planning on trying 0,3% milk. I thought about coffee creamer, but that'd save me maybe.. 50kcal a day, which wouldn't be worth it switching to it.
Any ideas?

Hmmm I think if you can keep it to about a cup or even cup and a half of 1.5% milk, you're okay (i.e. I'd probably just reduce the amount you're drinking a little - as in one or two cups less of coffee a day. I did this by making all subsequent cups after the first cup be only half a cup so I had to go back for more refills - got too lazy hahah).
That being said, I think the only reason you should change is if it's taking up so many of your daily calories that you're hungry all the time. The calorie savings between 1.5% and skim really isn't much. Between 10 or 18% cream, sure, but 1.5% not so much. And having 2 cups of milk in a day isn't bad for you! Look at them healthy bones! And if you like the milk, I say just have the milk!
I read an article that said 6-8 cups daily of coffee is perfectly fine for you. Don't know how true it is but I got what I needed from it0 -

Unsweetened cashew milk is only 25calories for 240mls. You can add in some sweetener if you need to. I use this in my iced coffees all the time, and when Im done putting coffee, ice and syrup in it, I cant even taste the difference in the milk0

You can have coffee with cream, milk, sugar, or whatever if you really enjoy it - just remember to log it appropriately and include it in your daily total calories and your macros.0

I too love really milky coffee. Have you tried more gourmet/low acidity coffee. I recently switched from cheap stuff at the grocery store to local roasted/craft coffee. I noticed that it tastes smoother/better on it's own and I don't have nearly as much milk with it as I used to0

I'll definitely take them in. Now that I'm thinking about it, that bunch of milk really isn't too bad.
And Cashew Milk sounds awesome! I'm definitely a fan of nut milk (almond milk is my fav, but soy milk, rice milk etc is also great), I'll just have to look how much it costs. Maybe it won't be a daily substitute, but for every here and then- amazing0 -

I still have my coffee with cream and I'm working out, counting calories and dropping the weight! I've had to change pretty much everything else I eat to accommodate this, but it is my own comfort food I decided to keep.

two tablespoons of half and half are 40 calories and make it plenty creamy.0

I tried cashew milk, personally I hated it, it had the most awful after taste and did not go well in coffee. I do like almond milk, but I think soy milk tastes the best in coffee for the non dairy options. I also drink exclusively light roasted coffee, it doesn't change the amount of caffeine, but the flavor. I love it, I buy the organics brand from Safeway when its on sale and it costs no more than the non organic stuff. Kroger or Fred Meyers also sells organic coffee for $8 a pound here. I find I use a TON less milk in light roasted than medium or dark roasted.0

Try evaporated milk. Because some of the water has been removed from the whole milk, it's so creamy. That's what I use.0

The thing about almond milk is that it gives your coffee a really nutty taste? I personally dont like it, I love my coffee strong and bitter. I would recommend coffeemate, I tablespoon has 10 calories. However, the powdered kind has trans fat in it I believe the liquid one doesnt.
You can also try skim milk. But to be honest, if its just a cup of coffee a day, I dont think a few calories is so bad Just enjoy your coffee~0 -
I cannot drink coffee without creamer and have tried some of the substitutes like skim milk, soy and almond milk, but it's just not the same.
I have since substituted flavored coffee creamers (at 35+ calories/TBS) in favor of fat free half and half (15 cals/TBS in the brand I buy, others are even lower). It's (to me) the best low cal coffee creamer out there.0 -
I find when I move to higher fat cream/creamer I find I use less because it makes it creamier faster.0

Due to concerns about the ingredients in those coffee creamers I switched a few years ago to canned coconut milk and stevia. This doesn't save me any calories but hopefully it protects my health.

I also love coffee with lots and lots of milk. At home I cold brew my coffee, because regular coffee gives me heartburn from the acid. I take a tumbler, fill it about 1/3 with cold brew coffee concentrate, then 2/3s with 1% milk. Delicious!0
