super hard to stay on track when my department at work eats the world of crap foods every week

  • Your department isn't trying to lose weight--you are! You can't let other people's bad habits determine your fate, or be your excuse. It's up to you alone whether you succeed or fail.

It's really easy to blame it on work, or loved ones etc etc- but to really, really do this you have to realize that it's you who is doing this to you. You CAN say no. You also can eat things proportionally and within your calorie diets. My work does potlucks all the time- people bring in deserts all the time. I just say no. I don't need this. Or if I do decide to eat some of it I eat small portion sizes

You have to be in this 100%. Sometimes you might fall down and fail, but you just have to get back up and keep working every single day. This is your life- take it back!

Then eat those foods with them and log them? Weight loss is CICO, not "eat x food because it's 'healthy' and will promote weight loss!" I constantly eat "bad" food and I've lost 27lbs just fine.

And this. It's like when people say "omg so and so is sabotaging me because they are eating the way they always haaaave." like come on, no. The world doesn't stop overeating because I'm working on losing weight.

And if your current diet (i.e. its contents) is not one that you see yourself consuming for life, the you're losing weight wrong. Eat foods you plan to eat for life, just a bit less of it.

It starts and ends with accepting responsibility for your actions.

Blaming anything/anyone other than yourself is a guaranteed path to failure.

    Guaranteed.

    Failure.

Once you start it gets much easier! After you refrain from eating crap when the people around you are, you realize that you don't actually have to do it, and then it's much less difficult to keep going with your healthy way than the first time you decided not to let it influence you. In my experience, anyway :P

Get lots of flavors of tea to enjoy instead of the junk food! My work is like that too. I walk past the stuff like... NO NO NO NO NO inside my head lol and I make a cup of English Breakfast or something really satisfying.

So I have decided that every time I feel that temptation to fall off the wagon for a bad meal at work or to watch Netflix instead of running. I will think of this post. Thanks to everyone who gave me the kick in the pants.

Get a treadmill for the house and you can watch Netflix "while" running.
