Fighting carb cravings

I always find it so hard to resist the urge for salty, carb-rich food. Like bagels with cream cheese, breakfast sandwiches, etc. I am still in the early stages of working out (progressing each week!) so my workouts often don't allow enough extra calories for me to indulge in a 300 + calorie craving. Any suggestions?

try to fit them in then.

You can do that in a couple ways.

Set a reasonable goal for weekly weight loss which allows for extra calories

    or

    Exercise

Thanks, sunn_lighter! I'm at 1,200/ day rabbitjb and have on average about 300 extra calories from exercise. I try to only use those if I'm eating something super nutritious that also happens to be calorie dense (like quinoa for example). I'm trying to find other things (like a small amount of cheese) to at least help with the salt craving part of it.

Why does anyone have 1200 a day plus exercise cals when I have 1510 a day? I lost this week too so must be right. Are they lower because they want to lose weight more quickly? I am aiming to lost 1 lb a week but actually lost 3 lb

Just exercise 10 more minutes at high intensity. that cheese can fit into the goal, if you use the right portions. i give up nothing food-wise. Just make it fit into what you need to lose weight.

I am a shortish woman with a desk job and just a little bit left to lose, so I'm at 1,290 -- and that's at .5 pounds a week. Everyone is at a different place.

The less simple carbs I eat, the less I crave. I'm not on a formal low carb regime, I've just been progressively eating less high glycemic load foods like bread made from flour and more protein, fat, veggies, and fiber. Exercise also helps me with food cravings.

I don't eat processed foods or iodized table salt, and used to have salt cravings, which stopped when I started supplementing with kelp, so it was really iodine my body wanted. If you do eat regular table salt, which has iodine, disregard.

Have you tried the Bagel Thins? They are around 100 calories. I ate them 3-4 times a week when I first started. I love cinnamon raisin bagels with butter, so I would eat it at breakfast. The bagel, plus butter (.5 tablespoon), plus my fried egg (used nonfat cooking spray) was only around 250 calories. I've got "deal breaker" foods...food that I'm not willing to get rid of because I know the deprivation will make me give up. So, I make room for them. There are many days I have an only 200 calorie dinner (4 oz chicken breast and a couple low cal vegetables) but I feel happy, satisfied, and motivated to keep going.
