Hello!
I just had ankle surgery this morning to repair a torn tendon from running and i'm concerned on my diet and if I need to adjust. As of now I'm limited to 1200 calories a day. My goal is to lose about 1pound a week. In about a week when I have my followup I'm going to ask my doctor if i can do some light workout (well from the waist up at least). Anyone here ever had a similar surgery or surgery in general when they were in the middle of trying to lose weight? Should I stick to 1200 calories a day or limit them since I can't be as active as I want to? Any tips on exercise or modified forms of excerise? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I'm waiting for surgery for a torn tendon in my ankle. How did it go? I'm so scared. I can't imagine having to walk with crutches while lugging extra weight around.0

I had a modifed brostrom gould with an arthroscopic debridement last may. Ankle surgery, that is, to repair a tendon, a ligament, and remove scar tissue. I dont recommend exercising at all the first few weeks. I dont know about your surgery, but i had to lay in bed with my ankle above my heart 23 hours a day with a compression sleeve to reduce blood clots for the first 16 days straight. Any time it was lowered it turned purple from the swelling. Your having freaking surgery, give your body what it needs to heal. Food and rest. Eat very healthy with lots of fiber, drink water, and invest in a few good books.0

You should eat at maintenance so your body can heal.0

I had ligament reconstruction surgery in 2012 on my left ankle. I didn't really focus on losing weight during my recovery time just healing.0

Who said you could only eat 1200 calories a day? Your body needs to heal and that takes adequate nutrients. Don't ruin your health with an unhealthy mindset.0

I recently had a very bad ankle and foot injury. I moved my goals to lose 1lb a week from 2lb as I knew I wouldn't be able to get the same exercise calories (mostly fitbit step adjustments) and didn't want to have to cut my calories too much more, especially since my body was healing. You could change yours to be less of a deficit, so that you don't feel like you are starving, and to give your body more fuel to heal.
I also did mat exercises and weights at home as I didn't need to be on my foot for those. There are also great chair workout videos on youtube. There are many wheelchair ones that are helpful. I found chair zumba to be the best as it was fun, and I was able to get my heart rate up doing it. There are tons of different ones on youtube, so have a look and see what might work for you.
Just focus on not gaining, or even just losing a small amount while you recover.0
