Gaining weight

I don't know if this is the kind of question you can answer but I am hoping it is. I am currently morbidly obese and just started trying to get healthy. I have been under my calories for three weeks now. The first two weeks I dropped 9 lbs but last week I gained 3 and half way through this week I am up another 3ish. I don't understand I have not changed my diet and I am always a couple hundred calories below what it says I should eat. Now I am pregnant but only like 5 weeks so weight gain should be minimal if at all. Please help.

Pregnancy can be a major influence on the weight loss game, even if you're early in the process, so be sure to keep in touch with your doctor, and let them know what your eating plan is. This is doubly true if you want to exercise - which might not be for you at the moment.

The weight you lost in the first couple of weeks was likely at least partially water weight. The body does that when you change up your eating habits, especially if they're a lot different than they were before you began. The fact that you gained back some might just be your body adjusting to a normal loss rate. It might not be anything to be concerned about.

Another user posted this link in a different forum: http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ Go here and enter your information. See where it says TDEE? This is how much you need to eat to maintain your weight. If you want to lose, aim for less.

If you want to lose a pound a week, eat 500 calories less than this number; two pounds a week, eat 1,000 less. A pound of fat equals about 3,500 calories, so this equation accounts for 3,500 calories / 7 days. Two pounds a week or more is likely attainable for someone of your size.

If you feel that this is already what you're doing, you might want to take a second look at your quantity. I don't weigh all of my food now, but when I started, it helped because it gives you a clear picture of what you're eating. Weigh your portions (for instance, a cup of rice) on a food scale and record it into the MFP app under weight. Reason being, a "cup" or "handful" or something might be an entirely different calorie count for one person than it will for another. (And apologies now if this is something you're already doing. I can't see your diary and have no more information on you than what you've stated in your post.)

I'm sure others might pop in with more details, so I'll just quickly add: Don't despair. Weight loss doesn't necessarily happen in uniform numbers from week to week. Some weeks, you'll drop a ton, other weeks you won't see a change - and considering you're pregnant, you might even see a gain from time to time, especially if you retain water.

Thank you all for your support. I actually did begin working out about two weeks before I found out I was pregnant and I'm trying to stick with it. I didn't think about the water weight part of it. And I haven't been weighing my food only measuring it. I'll be getting a scale this weekend. Thanks again for the support and the congratulations.

Losing weight is not a liner thing. Even after you follow the flow chart above, your weight will go up after it goes down. If this will discourage you then I suggest you only weigh once a week or perhaps every two weeks.

Congrats on your pregnancy!! Try not to stress- it isn't good for the baby. I'm at 24 weeks and get depressed every time I see my stomach and boobs (they're huge- ugh), but I know that even if going to the gym doesn't make a difference in the scale, I feel better and it's good for the baby: ) Keep at it, but don't beat yourself up on the days when you don't feel like you've done your best. One step/day/week at a time!

Thank you so much. I needed to hear that. It's been difficult but I keep thinking, it has to be worth it. After all on my work out days I do feel so much better. Congrats on your pregnancy too. It gives me hope knowing you have been able to stick to it. Thank you
