When are you done eating for the night? 5:00? Does it work like that?

I tried to stop eating tonight at 5:00...I have already reached my calorie limit today and really do not want to go over. I have heard that you should stop eating by 6:00 pm so your stomach is not full when you go to bed because that is when it turns to fat...is there any truth to that?
I am a bad midnight snack eater so a "time to be finished" seems like a very difficult thing for me to stick with.

I try to stop by 6:00 or 7:00. I think it is supposed to be about 3 hours before bed that you stop so you don't go to bed with your body still trying to digest your meal.0

Meal timing does not matter, that's just a myth that gets repeated often. Eat when you like. Personally, I always leave room for after-dinner snacks.0

Your body can't tell what time it is when you eat, and food only turns to fat if you eat over maintenance. That said, I oftentimes eat dinner as late as 9:30 and lose. As long as going to bed on a full stomach doesn't cause health problems while you sleep, you can eat right up to bedtime.0

I eat all the way up until 10 pm sometimes. Dinner at 7 or 8. Never bothers me. No truth whatsoever that what time you eat affects weight loss.0

I've heard varying opinions on the claim that eating at night is bad. I personally have at least one night a week where I'm just getting around to eating dinner at 9:30 or later, and have been losing weight consistently for about 5 weeks.
The food has the same quantity of calories whenever you eat it--difference being that when you're sedentary sleeping you're not burning as many calories so your body doesn't actively use the nutrients as efficiently (at least, that's how I've come to understand it. I'm no dietitian ). But as far as calories go, it's all the same regardless of when you eat it.
I always leave calories left over for dinner/snack at night. Of course I also never eat dinner before probably 6:30 anyway, so it's a bit different.0 -

Well, I eat dinner at 7 pm most nights and have a snack around 9 or 10 pm have lost 23.5 lbs doing that.
What matters is sticking to your calorie goal not the time you eat.0 -
I'm done when I go to bed... lol.
Edit: I save most of my calories for the night because I just prefer to eat more in the evening. Do what works for you--if you like to eat at night, there are ways to make it work. I've lost 40+ pounds.0 -

It's a myth that anything in your stomach when you go to bed converts to fat. You should structure your meals in a way that works best for you in terms of adherence. For me personally, I usually finish up around 7:30 but there have been times where I've gone long stretches eating a snack every night at 9 or later.0

I eat within an hour of going to bed and I've lost 70lbs.0

Sounds like a silly idea to me.
Stomach: omg omg I am full and its 9 pm.
Stomach:damn look at all the food, better get to work.
Stomach: *turns your roast dinner into fat*
I eat at all different times, especially on the weekend. Lost 50kg I can't see any evidence of meal timings affecting weight loss personally.0 -

In which time zone? If daylight savings starts or finishes, does your stomach know that? Or do you need to adjust so that some parts of the year it isn't 6 pm, it's 5 pm or 7 pm? What if you travel? It's 6 pm in your timezone, but maybe it is 5 am in the time zone you've travelled to.
It's before 6 pm somewhere in the world at all times.
I usually eat dinner about 7-8 pm, and then having my late night snack about 10 pm. That works for me.

i stop eating around the time i go to bed at midnight. And lost my 95 pounds just fine.0

I stop when I go to sleep. I generally eat at least 600 calories in the 2 hours before bed (8-10 or 9-11ish). I ALWAYS save calories for a bedtime snack (or 2!). I have lost 30+ lbs since January with no issue.0

I'm not much of a breakfast eater, it makes me feel ill to eat too soon in the day. I end up eating half my calories for the day at dinner and evening snacks. As long as it's accounted for and you remain in a deficit, the timing doesn't matter. Eat when you are normally hungry, and don't make it harder than it has to be.0

Um. I eat my last foods around 10 pm right before I go to sleep. Usually an entire bag of popcorn or an entire pint of frozen yogurt.0

I tried not eating after a certain time.. didn't work for me i would eat as much as i could before that time because i was limiting myself. Now i just eat when im hungry0
