63 Minute Run

When I got on the treadmill yesterday I decided I would run for 4 miles since I have an 8k coming up. Now keep in mind I just did a 5k in 35 minutes last Saturday so Im assuming it should only take at the most 50 minutes. Boy was I shocked it took 63 minutes to run 4 miles!!! Now I do realize that the treadmill is at an incline and it was hot (I dont do well in the heat ) but 63 minutes?...not acceptable. So Im ticked and I go and tell my husband who looks at me and says... Wow you ran for 63 minutes straight? Thats impressive. Then I got to thinking Wow I REALLY ran for 63 minutes...that IS impressive. :) I cant wait to see my time for my 8k on June 4th, I have a feeling Im goign to do ALOT better than on the treadmill.

Great job on a 63 minute run!!! The treadmill speed has never translated to road speed for me. Something about the treadmill is different. I was always a faster runner on the road than I was on the treadmill.

Yes, it is very impressive to run 63 minutes! Way to go! I used to be a runner (in H.S, and College). I have just been getting back into it the last year or so. Here's one nice thing: USUALLY, your race times are going to be faster than you anticipate. The adrenaline, and excitement of the race (beginning and finish) usually speed up your run time. After all, most of us don't have that kind of excitement helping us out on the treadmill. Good job...and you'll kick butt on your 8K!

It's not about the race entirely...it's about the journey there. (and all the benefits you gain along the way!) = )

Funny you posted this because I was just lamenting the same thing yesterday, being slower on the treadmill.

The good news is that I've worn my Nike+ with sensor on the treadmill a few times now and it has consistently been about .5 to .75 miles faster by the end of my run. The sensor tracks your actual stride, while the treadmill speed we set is just the speed the "floor" is moving at. So while you think it took you 63 minutes to run four miles (great work, by the way!!) I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you do your 8K and find that your time is faster! Good luck!

I HATE the treadmill so I am sooo happy for you!! The treadmill is very boring to me since I do it in the gym and all they have on is sports lol. At least outside you can enjoy the scenery and weather! good luck on your 8k! I'm running a 5k next Saturday! My first one :)

Road speed is different from treadmill speed for me too. I think because on the treadmill the speed is consistent so you don't go faster when you are feeling good. GREAT Job on the run!!

I'm confused...you ran 3.1 miles in 35 mins, but 4 miles in 63? The extra mile took 35 mins. Am I reading wrong. Awesome though you could run that long, I sure can' t.

You read it right..crazy huh? And on the treadmill to run a 5k it takes me 45 mintues...I dont get it. But at least I know I do better in a race :)
