Richer neighborhoods complain that water restrictions are ruining landscape

Most know that California is facing a drought. Not a light one either. Yet there are "elite" people that are complaining that the restrictions are too harsh and that if they have the resources to pay for it, they shouldn't be restricted. A radio host even stated "And no, we're not all equal when it comes to water." siding with the elite.

I've cut watering my small lawn to 5 minutes once a week just to keep it a "light" green. Well within restriction limits.

People who live in a desert want to have a lush green tropical garden. And if they can pay for it, they should have it mentality. Nice.

The real water hogs in California is agriculture. Miles of avocado, almonds, strawberries, and melons! It is laughable to tell a residential user to only flush the toilet twice a day, or limit water on their small patch of grass, while letting agriculture continue to feed at the endless water trough. Stating large agricultural users should pay less for water, based on their high volume! Talk about a subsidy!

It's disgusting how money makes rich people feel like people with less are not people

Wow, that's always been the attitude of the elite. The rules don't apply to them!!! And yet we continue to bow and fall down to kiss the feet of the rich and famous like they are some sort of gods. When we decide to no longer follow them, they will no longer have power.

I wish there was a way to deliver some of the EXCESS water we've gotten here in Texas to CA.

The problem is that most of the Cali coast SHOULD be an arid region.

However, industry water usage dwarfs personal usage and people may not be aware of that. Lawn watering is a small piece of the pie to single out.

Cali may be beautiful but the natural landscape and resources are just stretched so thin by where the cities have been located. But when snow or rain doesn't fall what do you do? Use more groundwater and deal with subsidence and limited aquifers? Build more resevoirs? Build more aqueducts? Accept the cost and inefficiencies of desalination?

it may not be a favorable reality, but in today's Information age do many of the business and people HAVE to be there?

They've got the money, put in astro-turf. I have a dirt yard, cut the weeds a couple times a month. If I could afford fake grass I'd have a nice lawn.

Lol, lots of my neighbors are now considering it. One just put one in to the tune of $8,000 for her back yard around the pool. If I had the money to do it, I consider it in the back yard too.

niner, I live a little north of Houston and during a drought our neighborhood reminded us that it was the homeowner association rules to keep a green lawn.
