Fruit smoothies

I want to start making smoothies, because they allow me to get more calories/nutrition without feeling as full.I borrowed a friends blender the other day and made one with some yogurt, ice, and mixed berries and it was damn good, does anyone know a good blender for making smoothies? I'd like to keep it under a couple hundred dollars if possible. Also, anyone have cool smoothie recipes I could try? I know there's a recipe section, but, we're here sooo :]

I love green smoothies. I never use dairy in my smoothies, but that's a personal choice. You can use simplegreensmoothies.com for inspiration - I also add in spirulina and will start adding protein powder to my smoothies (I'm a vegetarian, so I need the umph). You can easily sweeten a smoothie with mint leaves, a date or two, banana or coconut. The possibilities are endless!
In time, you will get to know which products go well together and what fills you up without breaking the calorie budget. For instance, I love to add a bit of coconut oil in my smoothies, but don't do it every time because of the calories in it. And you will quickly learn what combinations you prefer. I used to just do things willy-nilly, but now I write down my own recipes with different combinations, that I can save as meals and that way I know I will like the finished product (it can go wrong, bleh) - and all I have to do is weigh the ingredients and change my saved meal accordingly.
As for a good blender, I'm not sure what kind of blenders there are where you are from (or where you are from) but so long as it can hold x amount (you decide; mine is fairly small at 0.8 litres, but sufficient for single person use) and can crush ice, that's all you really need. A lot of people seem to love the Vitamix or something like that, but I don't live in the US and don't have access to it.
Have fun!0 -
there are several (healthy) smoothie making sites out there on the interweb. browse around and try them out.

I have the nutribullet, it is fantastic :-)0

Ive recently got a nutribullet and i'm a little bit obsessed with it. I have a fruit smoothie every morning now just to use it. And you can make omelettes in it too so thats lunch sorted too! Love it.0

I have had the nuitribullet and the kitchen ninja. They do work pretty well, but I finally shelled out the money and got a Vitamix Professional Series 500. The Vitamix is at a whole new level in that, not only does it make the best smothies, but you can make everything else with it as well. Soup, nut butters, sauces, dips, ice creams, you name it. And you have full control over the ingredients, so you can make everything healthy.0

Awesome suggestions, I'm gonna buy a nutribullet cuz its small, only $100 and has great reviews. If that goes well I think I'll probably get a bigger one at some point0

I like smoothies occasionally, but I find they're not filling enough for the calories I have to work with. Also, having a blender around, vodka....well, bad (good) things happen.0
