No time to exercise!

Hello, I'm new here. I live in Ireland and have 2 children, the youngest of which is nearly 11 months old. I'm still breastfeeding and seem to be hungry all the time with no time to exercise! I've developed a sweet tooth to help ease the tiredness. I need motivation to get back on track with my diet and would like to talk to other mums with no time and see how you all do it. Looking forward to losing a few pounds!

Everyone has the same amount of time in the day, it's all about how you manage it. It can be hard, but you have to actively SCHEDULE your workouts. Working out should be like brushing your teeth. You do it every day to keep your teeth and gums strong and healthy. Same with exercise. It doesn't have to be a long-drawn out workout. Just 10-20min a day, 6 days a week is enough to make a difference.0

Most get up 30min early or go to bed 30min later....its a good start and very doable..or they simply start by walking ..pushing kids in stroller etc0

Skip the housework and say you did it! For energy try protein shakes!0

If you where 100% committed to exercise, you will find time. trust me. Ever consider buying one of those baby craddle things, that you can carry your baby in, and go walking or something? be like a kangarooooooooo, just don't jump with the baby.0

Assuming you're up before the kids, what about doing sit ups or the like before they get up? Or if you have stairs go up and down them a few times? Not only will it get the blood pumping but you'll feel more awake for the rest of the day too. Walk rather than drive short distances, take the shopping in more more than 1 trip. It all helps0

You have to find something you enjoy and that you can fit in your day. Even getting out every day for a brisk walk pushing the buggy is great exercise. Otherwise I think when mine was small I would try to get my O/H to mind her for a regualr class every week I'd go to with my friend. With it being a set time I made the effort.
It is very hard with young children and b/f is draining, don't be too hard on yourself.0 -
Everybody has time to exercise, it takes less than a minute to punch out 20 sit ups. As soon as you get up, before you go to bed, while the dinner is cooking. As said above it is all about managing your time and this can be hard.
Personally, I used to get up at 0730 to get to work for 0900. I now get up at 0545 so I can get to the gym in the morning.
I know how difficult it is but if you want to get fitter you need to make time for it.0 -

I dont have kids but somethimes struggle to fit a workout in myself - so I have no idea how people with kids do it!! lol. I think weight loss is mainly down to food (from my experience as I have been working out for over a year and not lost any weight but started to record what I eat and lost a stone). So I would just make sure you record what you eat, walk as much as you can and play lots of games with your kids to burn calories.
I think you will have to eat more than MFP says if you are breast feeding - no sure though but that uses your calories - I think?

i agreed there is always time for exercise it up to you what your going to put aside to do it personal house work would have to wait.0

I seem to be in a similar situation...I have three children, my youngest is 8-months, I am also breastfeeding and seem to be hungry all the time. With my first two children the weight seemed to fall off without much effort, however following this pregnancy I seem to be eating way more, and craving sweet food for which I have started baking- terrible I know! I started with myfitnesspal after I entered my daily calories for fun. To my horror I was eating almost x3 times the amount of calories I should be. I have since spoken to my post-natal care nurse (known as a Plunket nurse here in NZ) and she estimated that only 500 calories per day is what is used up breastfeeding. Recording my daily food intake has made me think more about having yet another peice of cake or biscuit.
Anyway in regards to exercise, I play a game of netball once a week which is about 60 minutes of aerobic activity- this gives me way more calories I try and fit physical activity into my day which I can do with the kids- I have started 'shufflin' (the latest dance moves) with this kids, which is pretty exhausting but a great cardio workout that we all enjoy; playing XBox Kinnect Sports' and walking briskly around the mall when out shopping. These things are pretty easy to fit in around my already busy mummy schedule.

How about a bike with a kiddie trailer? The added weight/drag will help with a burn.0

My friend is a mum of a one year old, and she finds time to exercise. What she does is use the Wii with the little one there too. I'm not saying get a Wii, but maybe get hold of a couple of exercise DvDs that you can do whilst keeping an eye on the kids.0

i have 3 little girls 11, 6, and 6 months! so my 2 older ones are in school and the baby is here with me all day! i do my videos while she take her first morning nap or i throw her in her bouncy, for that half hour and then she goes in the stroller for my 30 min run! when the kids are not in school they ride their bikes while i run behind them! My yard is the neighborhood yard, usually 11 kids, we get a good game of dodgeball going after school. during thid time i move her bouncy onto the porch! YOU CAN DO IT! good luck!0

I never had a problem keeping fit when I was pushing a double buggy up and down hill when mine were small. As my son got bigger and heavier so did the workout! If you drive everywhere try and walk sometimes Also taking the kids out is a great way to keep them amused, go feed the ducks!0

You're a a full time mum and housewife by the sounds of things , which means you don't have to work out , as doing the job you do ,is a 24/7 thing and you're probably on the go most of the time any way , running around after children , cleaning home etc etc etc .................. my advise to you would be watch your eating habits , I can have sweet tooth sometimes , and when i do, i have a couple of caramel rice cakes, as long as you stick to your calorie goal keep active with the kids ( chase them around the house will get your heart rate up ) breastfeeding helps get your figure back too :0)

I think when you are really ready to do this you will make the time, whether it means getting up earlier or rearranging your schedule some other way. I'm a single mom of 3, I work, and go to college, but I still make time to go to the gym 5 to 6 days a week0

I'm a stay at home mom of 4. My youngest just turned 2. My husband works crazy hours and when hes not at work he's usually here catching up on sleep. But still I work out 6 days a week. I go to the gym, I use DVDs at home, put the youngest in a stroller and walk. Somedays I get up early to workout other days I may stay up late. Even if I have to put the household chores on hold to go workout I will. if getting a workout in is important to you you'll make the time. . Good luck!0

You don't need to go to the gym to exercise.
I bought an Xbox 360 and Kinect and am exercising with EA sports Active 2. It's really good for people who can't/don't want to go to the gym. You can also do it without the xbox and kinect ofcourse,but this helps to motivate me,as without this I definitely wouldn't do it. This is very encouraging.
Your eldest child might enjoy doing it with you. My children do Not sure about your 11 month old though,but he/she is probably still sleeping in the daytime?
Have you been tracking your calorie intake? It really helps to write things down,to see how much you're really eating instead of estimating.0
