Good morning all! Didn't get to the gym this am, so I did a Leslie Sansome workout on excersice tv. It was only the 1 mile walk for 20 min. I googled it, and one site said to count it as a brisk 3.5 mile walk.

Anyone know if that is correct? I was definately sweating and feeling the workout on my muscles. Thanks!

Oh and Thurs is weigh-in day for me. I lost .8 lbs this week....not bad. I only say that because I didn't watch my food or excersise for 4 days! Not proud of that, but happy about a .8 loss in 3 days.:)

I usually pick 2.5mph for the 1 mile walk but if you've found something stating 3.5 then I would go w/that. It's been awhile since i've done it though- i do her 3 mile walk alot & on it she says the pace is equal to 5mph. Good job on ur weight loss. It's melting off w/out having to do alot of work

Good Morning to you also. If I walk at 3.0 on the treadmill at the gym for the whole mile it equaled exactly at 20 min/mile.

    This is from her site:

The simple answer to “How many calories do we burn per Mile?”
The Walk without Boosters … approx. 100 calories per mile!
The Walk with Boosters ….. approx. 125 – 150 calories per mile!

I have a few friends who are doing her videos with me....we log them as aerobics low impact and put in the time that you do it. this seems to be better because some of the videos that I have change the pace with fast miles or boosted walking. I checked it out...the calories are similar. I do leslie almost every day, I love changing the walks to mix it up a bit. have fun

Actually, technically, all of her videos are 4.0 mph and some are 5.0mph. She's mentioned it several times during a workout, and math proves it to be right. Anyways, walking 4.0 mph in the database is pretty accurate. I have an HRM, so I manually enter my calories under this workout, but MFP actually underestimates for me. It's better to underestimate than over-.

All I do is Leslie dvd's and I log is under Aerobic, low impact and then enter the time of the workout. Because there is so much more than walking - the knee lifts, side steps, arm movements (with or without stretchie band) and kickbacks - it seems weird to log it strictly as walking.
For any of you who use Leslie's dvds, have gotten stronger and aren't feeling as much burn anymore I highly recommend adding 1lb hand weights for the duration of the walk! I started doing that a week ago with her 4 mile express super challenge (there is no band work on that walk) and it has made a HUGE difference. Not just in the way I sweat but my arms and upper torso are really toning up and it forces me to drop my shoulders during the workout so I don't "hunch up" which can happen when I am going fast and pumping my arms. I use the Danskin 1lb weights from Walmart - $7.

Yes...I used that option before I got an HRM...It is pretty accurate..probably about a 20-40 calorie difference
