do protein shakes help with weight loss? I know it's used for muscle recovery but could it also be used to help with weight loss and if so how often should you drink??

No. A calorie deficit helps with weight loss. Protein shakes are a good source of protein if you struggle to get enough through regular meals .

Depends on your point of view. There dont directly help weight loss but depending on the shake contents, it may be a weight management shake, which means it can at least partly replace a meal. But as a general rule, protein shakes are like vitamins - a supplement to an existing diet.

I take my Recovery XS post workouts and it relieves a lot of stiffness and ache and pains the next morning allowing me to go bear mode in the gym the next day.
It works out to be about 312kcal however I manage my calorie and nutrition to a fine science so I can make allowances for it to ensure I take the 30+g's of Protein and Carbs I need.

Don't use it as a meal replacement, use it as a reward for hard work and it'll do wonders for you.

I drink a protein shake everyday as a snack to hold me over till lunch and it gives me the protein that I need for lifting weights.

They have helped me lose weight. I have one in the morning and I am full until lunch. That saves me a lot of calories. For whatever reason food doesn't keep me full in the mornings but protein shakes do.
