Frustrated because of my medication

I used to have thyroid cancer and the whole organ was removed from my body. I have to take medication from now on till my death to simulate a normal metabolism (aka create the thyroid hormons)
So far so good BUT for 4 months now the doctors and i struggle to find the right dosis for me. It is so frustrating because if i take to little i gain weight very easy but if i take to much my bones suffer.
So now i am stuck with a little bit to little and have a hard time losing weight. Starting tomorrow i have a little higher dose to help me lose weight and feel overall better.
It is just very frustrating if you eat healthy (about 1400cal a day) and do sport almost every day but still gain weight.

I can understand. Although I still have my thyroid gland I often feel like I might as well not for how little it works! I'm on nearly the highest dose of Levothyroxine (thyroid hormone replacement) and it has taken me personally about 3 years to reach the right dose for me.
But it can happen! I've been on the right dose for 6 months now. I have a lot more energy and about a month ago I really started focusing on losing weight. I'm doing normal healthy eating and exercise and have lost 8lb in a month.
So it is possible. Just be patient, eat as healthy as you can now and focus on getting yourself well so you can fight against the weight. Weight loss can be much slower...but its not impossible.
All the best.0 -
Thank you for your motivational words!
I just hope that i will get to a right dose soon0 -

Yes it is
It is fricking frustrating finding the right medication
And it is true of almost every chronic condition under the sun .. that and the constant monitoring to ensure that you are on the right dose and it continues to work
it's not fair .. and it is frustrating .. you are right! I'm sorry you have to deal with this.
That said you will get to a stable point and then you can focus on your weight loss more
and your weight can become another tool in working out if your thyroid meds are working appropriately
So not fair .. but you can deal ... and you're not using it as an excuse so you are 10 steps ahead of where you could be
Keep on keeping on .. you've got this0 -

I guess i just needed to vent my frustration somewhere ^__^
I will fight even harder to get in shape and i KNOW that as soon as my meds are working as they are supposed to the weight will fall off easy^^0 -
You did the hard part, you survived cancer. The rest will be far easier. Be patient, keep working with your dr, and you will find the right dosage. 4 months is nothing when it comes to thyroid meds, you will find what works for you, do not worry.0

My doctor stepped out of hus comfort zone and suggested some suppliments tgat aide in bone density. Most drs don't like doing that but, while I do have a thyroid, it's sluggish, yet latest bone scan showed density was maintaining very well for a 60 yr old.0

I have Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease). Meds (in my case Synthroid & Cytomel) reduce the fatigue so I can be more active. But I kept gaining until I learned to log everything I eat and drink accurately and honestly. Logging works.
I lost the weight before my thyroid levels ever entered the "normal" range by following the advice in the Sexypants post: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p10 -
I too am recovering from thyroid cancer, had it removed entirely in December plus I had radioactive iodine treatment in march. My meds were adjusted and I've been feeling drained. Started taking vitamin B12 and that seems to help but I've gained a lot of weight back and by early evenings, I don't have a lot of energy left to workout. I get up at 5:30 to go to work, so getting up earlier isn't going to be possible. I don't have an excuse for the weekends though but again, I feel utterly drained.
Just coming back to MFP and I hope to track my food diligently.0 -
Sound a lot like me (but my iodine treatment happend a while back)
I just try to take every day and make it a good day! I just try to give my best and eat clean and do some workout even if its just for 20 minutes^^0
