NC Barbecue - What to eat?

My company is catering some NC barbecue today - the eastern style (vinegar based). This will be served with all manner of traditional sides, like potato salad, hushpuppies, coleslaw, and sweet tea. If there is no banana pudding I'm going to be furious...
Anyway, I have no idea what to eat. Let's just assume its all bad. BUT ITS SOOOOOO GOOD!!! Any advice here? I'm not great at estimating portion sizes.

Whatever you want to eat. Do not demonize food, none of it is bad. Only over consumption is bad, so don't over consume.0

I'd focus on the BBQ. The sides generally are worth the impact on my daily caloric intake. Use a hot sauce and/or vinegar bbq sauce and 4 oz of meat. Find a healthy side elsewhere, maybe have some coleslaw and avoid the bread.
Or just eat want you want, log it, and continue on.0 -
across the board with "unknown" food. meat and a veggie is really your best bet. It's not a sure fire solution because god only knows how much butter/oils they used- but it's hands down going to be better than trying to guess any pasta dish.
so meat/veggie and if you want a starchy carb- minimize the serving size.
Or if you don't care- just go ham.0 -

"...just go ham."
That is appropriate considering our conversation!0 -
Get a reasonably sized plate. Fill it (but don't pile it) with what you fancy. Eat. Then stop.
I think one the biggest things with BBQs or buffets is when you lose all track of how much you are eating because you eat bits at a time which when added together equate to about a week's worth of food...0 -
If the slaw is vinegar based too then pulled pork and slaw would be my choice. The fact that it might be lower calorie than say potato salad and Mac and cheese is just a bonus. I grew up in eastern NC (Stamey's FTW!) and that's one of my favorite meals on the planet. Add in a few hush puppies and some banana pudding or peach cobbler and I'd be in hog heaven.0

Eat the foods you really love. The stuff you can get any old day of the week, skip.
I would eat the bbq and the banana pudding.
(The cole slaw probably has more calories than the bread and would not be worth it to me.)
Have fun.

When in doubt, go with the meat.0
