    Plug your numbers int MFP.

Read all of the sticky threads at the tops of the topic sections

    Use a food scale

Follow the numbers MFP sets for you religiously.

    That's pretty much it.

It takes as long as it takes. Can't rush weight loss.

A principle I follow in my industry (not weight related) is that important is not the same as urgent. I completely agree that the loss of fifty pounds will do worlds for your health and mobility. Weight loss is important. Risk factors for high blood pressure, joint problems, diabetes, etc. go down even with thirty pounds off.

But this takes time. Especially if you want this change to be sustainable.

Be ready for the long haul, set modest goals, and start changing your habits one by one.

To have reasonable goals and patience :)

You didn't gain the weight overnight, and you can't safely lose it quickly.

Your doctor should be working with you on this too, since you are having health issues.

1lb/week is a good goal. You'll likely lose more initially if you follow the advice on the site.

Make small changes, achievable goals, and once you achieve these make new small changes and goals. Build up a routine that works for you and stick with it.

I'm sure your doctor gave you advice, so just follow it. Ask for a referral to a dietitian if you have questions or want/need a plan.

    Eat healthy. Do some exercise.

Be patient. Fifty pounds will take some time to come off. You're going to have to work hard every freaking day for a long time and sometimes, you'll see no results. Stick with it!
