How to calculate calories for a one hour Zumba class?

Hi Everyone,

Myfitnesspal has one hour of Zumba listed at over 900 calories. I think this is completely inaccurate. Is there a way to accurately measure how many calories one burns during a class?
I have several different trainers, so each class I take are at considerably different intensities.

I use a heart rate monitor and for 70 min medium setting on Wii u I got 89% 5stars and monitor said 611 but last week was 646 for 46 mins so I think it depends on you on the day aswell and how hard u need to push.

Yes, a heart rate monitor is currently the most accurate way of calculating exercise calories. It's not perfect, it's just the best way until an even better method comes along.

Thank you everyone! I think I'll invest in a heart rate monitor. It can only do good

It's hugely dependent on your fitness level - the less fit you are, the lower the burn.

How far can you run in an hour?

ETA: HRMs are a disaster for this kind of workout, and can give over-estimates as high as 4-5x.

    For women Calories Burned = [(Age x 0.074) — (Weight x 0.05741) + (Heart Rate x 0.4472) — 20.4022] x Time / 4.184
