Calories Burned on Machines

Hey guys,
Does anyone know how to get an accurate reading of calories lost on stationary bikes / ellipticals?
I always input less time on MFP at a lower intensity to make up for discrepancies (I've read that most places give a wrong number for calories burnt, even the machines themselves).
So for example I rode a stationary bike a around 17-19mph for 30 minutes but inputted 20 at a lower speed on MFP. I'd like to get a more accurate reading of calories burnt.

just put in what the machine gives you for numbers...eat back only 50%...problem solved
Or buy a HRM0 -

well use the machine numbers...why not? as long as you only use 50% to eat back you have created a consistent error which shouldn't reflect on your weight loss at all.
I logged a gyms numbers for the first months and everybody knows they are way off. But that didnt matter at all because i didn't eat them all back.
Work with the tools you have
Consistency is your best friend0 -
I just put in my weight as 25 to 30 pounds less than what I currently weight. And I also don't eat back most of my calories.0

I usually only enter 50% of what the machine says so I'm not trying to figure out how much of what I entered I can actually eat.0

That seems very low but try a different calculator and see what you get

My understanding is not very accurate at all, with the exception of treadmills as the calculation there is pretty standard, provided you put in your age, gender, weight, etc.0

Good read why the machines bike, treadmill and elliptical all seem to have high readings for calorie burns

well that's what i said
that is one of the reasons why people eat/log only 50% back
But if you log and use every day the same machine than the error is at least consistent.
And it doesn't matter that much
