I do not keep up with an exact count each day for a food log, though I do log all food and exercise. I have worked out and/or walked all of my life and fairly consecutively. This would be not as continuous for past two years. To bring this post up to date, let's say 7 months ago I began doing 2 60 minute Zumba workouts a week and then 3 months ago began working out with my PT twice per week, Zumba or Cardio once per week and Insanity once per week. For the past 2 months I have logged 1400 calories, three weeks ago for 1 week I did a detox week...no caffeine, breads, flour, refined sugar, sugar substitutes. For the next week I added yogurts and not as strict diet. The next week 1200 calories and the past two weeks a little more exercise. In total I have lost about 2 lbs. Need assistance and prayer! Thank you, Tammy

    What is your TDEE?
  • What does that stand for?

TDEE is your Total Daily Energy Expenditure. It's the number of calories your body uses in a day, or the number of calories your body needs to maintain your current weight. Eating above this number should lead to weight gain. Eating below it would lead to weight loss. You can get estimates of your TDEE from plenty of calculators online, but I think it's important to note that they're just estimates.

OP if you believe that your metabolism is lower than average, it might be best to get an appointment with your doctor to rule out any medical conditions. Otherwise, the same standard advice will probably apply here:

rawhidenadz has it exactly right. It doesn't matter how much you workout if you're eating too much. Keep an accurate count for a week, be very exact, then see how your weight changes. Adjust calorie intake accordingly.

the first sentence of your OP says that you "do not keep up with your food log" that is your problem right there, you are eating more than you think.

    YOu need to:

    get a food scale
    weight all solids
    log everything
    be as accurate as possible
    use correct MFP database entries

    Co-signed.

If you're not keeping up with your food log, you can't possibly know how many calories you're eating.

You don't need prayers. You just need to work out what calories you should be eating and weigh, measure and log accurately to meet those calories. Do it consistently til you meet your goal.

oh and you can't "raise" your metabolism…well, I guess you can if you put on more weight, but I don't think you want to do that...
  • Thank you! Very helpful and makes sense. I have logged all food though I don't use a scale and have been told that fitness pal is not totally correct.

It's as accurate as you make it. Sure there are loads of incorrectly entered foods but if you choose those because you can't be bothered finding correct ones or making an entry yourself then that's an inaccuracy you're creating yourself, not a problem with MFP

Exercise is the only thing I know. Switch it up, do things you haven't done before. Might help. Might not.

Nothing is absolutely correct when it comes to calories. It's all estimates.

    Good luck! :)
