Dried shiitake mushroom logging...

Hi all. Does anyone else eat dried shiitake mushrooms that have been re-hydrated? If so, how are you logging them?

I originally tried using the USDA dried shiitake mushroom entry (11268), but I was using so little that the dried mushrooms wouldn't register on my food scale. So instead, I am using the USDA raw shiitake mushroom (11238) entry after I have soaked them in water, although I do squeeze most of the moisture out before weighing. Should I weigh them before I squeeze? Is there another entry that would work better? What do you guys do?

I'm trying to be as accurate with my logging as I can, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance

Since you took the time to rehydrate them, just pat them dry with a paper towel and then weigh it. If you squeeze all the water out of them, I would think that it would defeat the purpose of re-hydrating them in the first place.

I would squeeze out the soaking liquid (and save it stock or soup!) before weighing, if you're using the raw shiitake entry -- raw shiitakes aren't (or shouldn't be) soggy.

I guess I must use a lot more dried shiitake than you do, because it generally tips the scale over to a few grams -- or are you using a food scale that only measures in ounces?
