squats?

Options
I really want to start doing squats on a regular basis, but whenever I do squats my knees end up hurting (I also run cross country for my school, so my knees are already under a lot of stress).
Is there an alternative for squats, or does anyone have any tips for doing squats? I'm still not entirely sure I'm doing them right, I have trouble going low while keeping my knees from going beyond my toes.

I think the whole knees beyond your toes while squatting thing is a myth:
Loads of stuff online about it, but here is a good YouTube channel that explains it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBHc323QwFE
I wear knee sleeves when squatting (not wraps) and they keep the joint warm and relatively pain free. I find my knee pain occurs when I have been sitting for very long periods at work. You could look into a decent pair of knee sleeves.

Stiff leg deadlines are a good alternative using dumbbells

I will agree with this. I think this has acThe tually improved my knees if anything. And when done incorrectly, might flair muscle/joint issues. Perhaps it's just me. And CFP of course...
