Skipping/jump rope for weight loss

Hi there everyone, I was just wondering if anyone had used skipping/jumping rope to lose weight and if they had any success with it?
I'm currently 209 lbs and I've got about 50 pounds left to lose. I bought a skipping rope for my birthday and I'm yet to use it. I've heard that skipping is a really great cardio workout, has anyone had any success with it alongside strength training and eating well??

Personally, I've got about 5 minutes before my calves kill me. I hate it. I'd much rather go hiking or box. I last longer and burn more calories overall.0

what you need for weight loss is a calorie deficit….
so you can skip rope, run, circuit train, etc; but if you are not in a calorie deficit you will not lose weight…
enter your stats into mfp
eat to that number
log everything accurately
get a food scale and weigh all solids
perform some exercise that you like
good luck0 -
diet for weight management; exercise for fitness...do whatever you like to do for fitness...but try to wrap your head around fitness for the sake of fitness.
I ride about 80 miles per week and lift a few days per week...walk my dog most day, do some hiking and a little swimming...I've lost weight, maintained weight, and deliberately gained weight doing these things...the difference between those three weight management goals was my diet, not what exercise I was doing.

Thanks for the comments guys, however I have no idea what a calorie deficit is. I'm eating 1200 a day, which is what MFP set me to with my age weight and height. I sometimes eat around 200 calories more if I've exercised a lot that day. What do I need to do?0

A colorie defecit is when you eat less calories than your body needs to operate on a day. When you are eating 1200 you are definetly eating in deficit.
For health reasons you want to eat net 1200 calories a day. If you eat 1200 and exercise 300 calories your net calories are 900 (so 300 to low).
To make sure your net calories stay at 1200 you need to input jump rope in cardio exercise. This will give you an amount of burned calories and how many total calories you need to eat that day. Do keep in mind that MFP overetimates exercise calories. Therefore try eating back about half of them instead of all.
So if it says 300 calories, eat 150'extra that day.0 -
Thank you so much AsISmile! That's a really concise and helpful answer, I was getting so concerned that I wasn't eating correctly but it seems like I am
