maybe a silly question...

but does anyone else find their weight fluctuates significantly during the day? If so, which reading should I use as 'my' weight? It may sound pedantic but my morning weight would suggest I'm slowly making progress in the right direction whereas my evening weight, sadly, confirms the truth... anyone?

Its not silly, many people who start with this ask this...

I recommend that you do it when you wake up, right after you go to the toilet and before you eat/drink anything.
You can do this every day (it will fluctuate), but best is to do it once a week - set one day for it. That way you can see weekly progress under similar conditions, without worrying about every-day fluctuation.

As above every monday morning. However if I do a long session on the treadmill, I always take my shoes off and jump on the scale at the gym too! sometimes a pleasant surprise, sometimes not!

Yea I would stick with once a week, pick a time and weigh in at the same time every time. I also prefer mornings, but whenever you want, just make sure it's relatively the same time each week. GOOD LUCK!!

My advice - don't weigh yourself more than once a week and do it first thing in the morning. The fluctuations in the scale will drive you insane if you weigh yourself multiple times a day or multiple times a week.

The weight didn't appear on your body in a day...it's going to take awhile for it to leave.

Try not to weigh yourself right after a workout, as your muscles have a tendency to swell with water (that you are hopefully hydrating yourself with). This was a suggestion my doctor gave me and for me, it seemed to be correct because by the next morning it (my weight) was down again.

I started weighing myself everyday and it worked until the 2nd week. I've decided never two days in a row. Most of the time I can see success every other day and sometimes I forget and then it's a really nice surprise when I remember a few days later and saw a huge jump down (most of the time anyways...). =)
