if you want to get to the six pack you have to unload all the groceries. They always put the six pack at the bottom of the bag.

Read this. But, bottom line, you need to lose body fat and build muscle.

My favorite is "5 sets of stop eating crap". Unfortunately I'm not good at it.

I'm a big fan of "fork put downs and plate push aways" it works for me. But in all seriousness, read the linked article. Most of fat loss is diet, and all of having a nice stomach is fat loss and some exercise.

Bbrigman520 thanku and u too. I'm going to try and not eat any meat for a week to see how much I shed... As meat stays in ur stomach for 7 days. I'm going to eat healthy, veg, salads, nuts and brown whole meal rice for 1 week and small excercises and ease in. Hopefully I will shed loads in a week and excercises will tone up faster as only eating natural foods. Good luck all

No. And not to be rude, but this is just not even common sense. I couldn't imagine harboring pounds of meat I eat everyday in my stomach, along with the plethora of other stuff I shove down my throat. This is not why your stomach isn't flat. It's just fat. Not 7 days worth of meat.

I mean, it could take more than a day or two or whatever to pass it through 25 feet or so of intestines depending on the rate of speed in which a healthy body participates in these actions, but other than that. Just no.

I tell my weight lifting partner who is always wanting more crunches this: "do you want nice abs or do you just want to do a lot of crunches? Because if you want nice abs we need to go outside and do sprints." The crutch of the matter is this. You already have nice abs, they are a rocking. You just can't see them if you've got a lot of fat in the way.

    Wait, what?

I'm just finally cycling out the gum I swallowed on Independence Day 2008 and now I have to wait out tonight's chicken dinner?

I almost choked on my roast beef reading about how meat stays in your stomach for seven days. Uh, sorry. That's not the way digestion works.

I sure hope not. I ate watermelon over the weekend and may have swallowed a seed. How am I supposed to fit a watermelon plant plus 7 days of meat in my stomach?

Oh dear.. Some people are making me laugh with the teasing but let's pull it back a moment. You are not going to shed "loads" in 7 days even with caloric deficit and exercise unless your definition of "loads" is 1 ounce - 2 pounds. Also, meat doesn't stay in your stomach for 7 days, it digests faster than that.. Much faster. Your approach to how you want to eat for those 7 days is nearly on target as long as you eat enough, I just don't want you to be super disappointed when your losses aren't monumental. These things take time, and there's no rush! I always tell myself "what's the damn rush?"

Good advice. I'll just add that if this is your first week cutting calories, you may lose more than listed above but it will mostly be water weight. You get a big loss the first few weeks due to that but then weight loss slows down.

    This. Especially the bold part.
It does not matter what you eat, as long as you eat net 1200 calories a day (minimum) and are at a deficit.
Also, one week of doing this won't be enough. Furthermore, it is okay to eat all these healthy and whole goods, and yes they can contribute to your health through micronutrients, but it is also okay to eat other foods as long as it stays within your calorie limits. It is not a temporary diet, it is a change in lifestyle.

If you want a flat/defined stomach, a small calorie deficit, a good progressive lifting program and patience will be the keys. Because, you need a low body fat %, adequate muscle mass and good genetics. And one thing to keep in mind... it may take 6 months, a year, or several depending what your true end state goal is.

    K thanku .

Become acquainted with CICO (calories in vs. calories out). Above you had posted a goal of not eating meat and focusing on healthy food for one week to see how much you would lose. I would suggest not limiting yourself to such a short time frame. Expect 1/2 pound to maybe up to 2 or bit over two pounds per week by eating at a deficit. Trying to go beyond that goal by targeting a super big week of weight loss to see how much you could lose probably won't last.

Here's a very good primer on CICO and weight loss that is honest, blunt and got me out of my boat on the river DeNial last year: http://www.acaloriecounter.com/blog/why-am-i-not-losing-weight/

Eventually, with fat loss, the stomach will start to lose any excess pudge. Unfortunately, you cannot spot reduce. It has to be overall weight loss that eventually will include the stomach/abdominal area.

Brilliant, thanku for a descent normal reply. Apologies but am new on here, and seems you need to choose your words perfectly ... I do appreciate ur comment and info, am extremely determined to do this, even if I lose a little, I'm eating healthy, exercising more, so should lose something. Little I'm happy with, as after time, it all counts

No problem. It's easy for folks to get frustrated in message threads, but keep your chin up no matter who posts what in response. In summary of what I read above, it's easy for all of us to accept myths about weight loss, weight gain, muscle building, muscle loss, etc... even when those myths may be based on incorrect information we have been fed over the years by various sources. Most all of us come to this site and these forums with a wide variety of information as well as misinformation. We are here to learn. No worries about that. It would be just as easy for someone to point out or provide information to say why a certain myth may or may not be based on correct information.

If you use the software available to track your calorie intake and your expenditure by being as honest and accurate as you can, you get a nice glimpse into your body/system functions and where you can make adjustments to accomplish your goals (lose weight, maintain weight, gain weight, etc.).

It really is rather easy if one is willing to keep score. Those that are unwilling to keep score will remain mystified. That's why I pointed you to that Blog Article in my previous post. It was a nice slap up the side of my head last year when my exercise and eating was not allowing me to reach my goals.
