Chia and different types of milk

Hello,
I have a question about recipes that involve chia seeds and milk. I have recently tasted a pudding-like thing made out of chia seeds, almond milk and berries and, because I liked it a lot, I want to try to do it at home. I've already ordered the seeds, they're supposed to arrive tomorrow (because they're not available everywhere in my country) so I've been googling all kinds of combinations I can make with them.
However, I noticed that all of the recipes I've read require non-dairy milk. I've never actually had almond milk or coconut milk until I've tasted this recipe and I've realized that the supermarket I usually shop at doesn't have them. To be honest, I'm not really keen on trying to track these down (not only because very few shops in the city stock them, but also because they're about 5-7 times more expensive than dairy milk) so I will try the recipe with normal dairy milk, to see how it turns out.
Anyway, I wanted to ask if there are any particular reasons why I should use non-dairy milk with these seeds or if the recipes simply chose the healthier (?) version. Is it really necessary to switch to nut-based milk?

Just make some almond milk, it is really easy to do if you can't buy it.0

You can use what you like! Most Chia recipes are raw/vegan hence the non dairy milk choice.
I've made it with nut butter and water when I didn't have another option!0 -
You can use dairy. There's lots of reasons to avoid dairy conventionally produced in the US but it doesn't sound like you live here. Where do you live?0

I don't know why you couldn't use real milk, but my favorite is to use cashew milk.....add chia seeds and some nutmeg for a wonderful breakfast or desert.....I make my own cashew milk0

Thanks for your answers, everyone. I'll try the recipe with simple milk first, because I already have it at home, and I'll look into making some almond milk later this week.
kshama2001: I live in Romania. Honestly, I have no idea about how our factories treat the animals. I have a friend who worked for a while at a dairy farm as a veterinarian and she said they were treated as well as they could, but I don't know if it applies for all farms. To be honest, we're battling with the problem of stray dogs currently, so most (civilian) animal protection efforts go towards that, especially since the government doesn't really care about it.0
