Some kinds and some brands are better than most. Albacore is o.k. Maybe try vinegar or lemon juice with some cut up pickles/ cucumbers /celery and mix in a hard boiled egg.

Start with real fresh tuna .. yellowfin is nice (quite expensive but worth it

It has a completely different taste to tinned .. sear it gently in a pan .. add salt, pepper, lemon juice .. delicious over a salad (can add new potatoes, egg, anchovies, olives, capers for a salad nicoise)

As for tinned .. get in oil or springwater .. drain well .. add mayo and eat in a sandwich with salad or a jacket potato - hold your nose if you don't like the smell on preparation

Also can mix a can with sweetcorn and mayonnaise and add fresh cooked pasta .. that's nice

What dish did you try abroad that you liked?

Albacore isn't a brand it's a type of tuna, generally more dry and less fishy than other varieties. Use the suggestions above for mix ins. I also like mine spread on sweet mini peppers with some garlic herb laughing cow cheese.

Starkist has packets for sale with flavors. Hickory Smoke (amazing taste), Ranch (good as well), Lemon Pepper, Sweet & spicy.

I suggest the Ranch and Hickory. The rest are ok.... but not as good as what I mentioned.

She's UK based so her brands would be John West or Supermarket own brand ... none of those mentioned are available here

We do get pre-mixed tuna in cans .. not a good idea I don't think .. best to get the basic in springwater and add your own mayo etc so it becomes to your taste

they're all pretty similar in quality

I used to eat (tinned) Tuna melts/toasties by mixing the Tuna with mayonnaise and melting cheese into it. I've just started replacing Mayo with Mustard and I really like it as it neutralises the fishy taste. Throw some peppers, celery and Ketchup on their too if you wish. I use high protein Burgon bread.

Typically I will get the smaller cans, drain off the water, add Tabasco, a little bit of salt and eat it out of the can.

If it's tinned that you're eating then try adding a generous amount of lemon juice and paprika.

If you don't fancy it with mayo, then try mixing it with Quark (Asda, the Co-Op usually have it), or greek yoghurt. Add salt/pepper/seasoning to taste. I've also mixed it with cottage cheese and love it but that might be a step to far for you at this stage!!

try mushing up avocado in it instead of mayo.
