I have been sticking to a 1200 cal. meal plan for 3 days now( longest time behaving myself in a long time). I have been doing what is for me heavy workouts. 20 mins. (treadmill 3.5 mph) walking 2x's day
recumbant bike for 20 mins. and starting slow and easy stregnth training. My problem is that I monitor my blood (also being good about that) and have twice dipped into the 80's which is low for me. I feel best around 90-94. I am eating every 2-3 hours and making sure before I workout that my body is prepared. I don't want to have to increase my food intake because I know that I will use that as an excuse to "stuff my face". Is there something I can try that will help me not drop so low? Thoughts? I am making an appt. with the Dr. for a checkup but until then??

im not a doctor, but 1200 calories is very low, maybe you should increase to about 1400 or 1500?

when you exercise you should eat your exercise calories or at least some of them, if not you are starvng your body

I agree....1200 calories works for some people depending on their weight, activity level, etc, but it is the absolutle LEAST amount a person should be eating, especially if you are not feeling well and your blood (blood sugar I'm assuming?) is lower than usual. Are you eating your exercise calories? Make sure you are, because at a 1200 calorie diet which is low to begin with, not eating your exercise calories means your body is only getting probably 700-900 calories which is DEFINITELY not enough. Certainly see your doctor though and see what they say.

I'm 5'7 and 221 lbs. Need to have a jump start and see some lbs drop off for my mental health. However maybe upping to 1400 or just adding a few more snacks (healthy of couse) might be the ticket. I am using ya'll to think out loud. Hubby is still asleep(criminals were active last night and he worked a 16 hr. shift) so no one to use as a sounding board. Thanks-

Make sure you are getting enough protein. And I recomned eating all of your exercise calories. Your body needs the fuel to keep going. Believe me you will still lose.

Eat more plus pick snacks like PB and/or honey that will keep you BG levels at a good level. Also, don't forgot that you can use glucose tablets when needed.

Let me add, too, that the 80s is not low--hypo isn't until lower than 70. If you're not used to those numbers, then it will feel odd at first but soon you'll feel yourself feeling better and better.

Make sure you're eating before exercising, too!

For me anything below 90 causes shakes, sweating, blurred vision, Dr.says I need to stay above 90.My father in law is normal at 110. My dad is fine at 75. Weird but everyone is different. I am adjusting my calorie intake slightly and play around with it until I take in what I need. Thanks for all the thoughts.
