dieting for life !!!!??

everytime I start a diet , I succed in losing the 5-7 kg I feel I need to lose , but eventually I stop when I reach my plateau and after 5-6 months I end up getting it back (and then some).
I guess I have to stay on a diet for all my life ....anybody else experience this trend !!??

Instead of a diet, I think of this as being healthy. So, yeah, I hope and plan that it's for the rest of my life.

You shouldn't need to 'diet' for life, you need work out how to change your habits and mindset so you want/choose to eat sensibly and remain fairly active. Hope you find the answers you need x0

The thing to do is make gradual changes, if you try to make changes quickly it's possible that you will relapse. Your body can't cope with the new stress, and you just end up pigging out and give yourself a break from the diet. Then you try again, and ithe same thing happens. This is the cycle of "yo yo dieting."
I have been there many times, I have lost over 100lbs then gained back 80lbs cause of this. I was just trying to hard, so the best thing I can say is take it slow, set small daily goals, such as eat a healthy breakfast for a month or 2 or 3, once you got that down packed, then go for a healthy lunch in the same manner, untill all your meals are healthy. Do the same thing with exercise.0 -
You don't need to diet for life but to keep the weight off you need to change your approach to healthy eating and exercise. That has to stick for life to maintain.
If you go back to old habits it does all come back (and very easily from experience).0 -

it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle. It comes with nutrition yes, but also, how you think about food, how you exercise, what motivates you, and recognizing choices.0

Unfortunately, you have to make it away of life. Not just a diet, a lifechange, otherwise you'll end up like a yoyo. Good luck and keep at it u got nothing to loose but the weight u want to loose:flowerforyou:0

It’s like everybody said it’s not about diet it’s about changing your life.
A diet is something short term. Say you put on a few pounds over Christmas, then you would do a Diet. After you lost the few extra pounds you stop the diet and you can carry on as normal. You can eat what you ate before Christmas. No problem here as you never had any weight problems in the first place.
If you have been overweight for a long long time and always struggled with you weight, than you are beyond diet :blushing: . In my case, I had to change my life, my way of thinking and my attitude towards food. It took a while but I am getting there.
I guess, it’s not supposed to be easy especially at the start otherwise we all would eat pizza, peanut butter ...and run around in a size 8 dress (well most of the girls, anyway :bigsmile: )

I've been exactly the same for the last few years. I need to strike the balance with a little more exercise and not take the mentality 'I'm not on a diet I can eat what I like'. The minute I'm happy with my body again I stop worrying about food and exercise. I guess you don't need to be terribly strict all the time as you would with a diet but maybe keep a rough tally of calories going in your head for the day and jsut be aware.0
