50 pounds by 2016 is a lot of weight to lose in that time period. The super obese could do it, as they're accustomed to eating 5 to 7 thousand calories a day. So cutting back to 1500 or less calories a day will shed the pounds at first, but even they slow down the more they lose.

It's all in the math. MFP sets up to losing 2 pounds a week, which is tough to do in itself. That means you have to eat 7000 calories a week less than you normally do, or burn that much through exercise, which is also hard to do, or a combination of both.

I am at goal weight now, but it took me over 2 years to lose 25 pounds. I had to learn to be estatic with 1 pound a week, then happy with a 1/2 pound, then 1/4 pound loss, etc.

If you can do that, you'll get there and stay there.

Good Luck to you all. Remember it's just calories in versus calories out.

Hmmm..... This challenge assumes a 2lbs a week loss for a good six months.

A quick calculation based on a 5ft 8" male, says that unless everyone who joins is Obese 2, or above, near the tail end of the challenge the 2lb per week rate of loss will be too aggressive.

The profile pic of at least one of you doesn't look like someone who is Obese 2

Good luck with the challenge everyone!
