what about when I don't exercise...

Hello,

my goal is set to 1500 to lose 1,5 pound a week which i'm fine with, when I exercise I always eat back my calories otherwise I get hungry, in that case I have no problem getting through the evening but what about when i'm not exercising, my goal is still 1500 cal but yesterday night I got very hungry at 10 pm, so should I eat something anyway even if It throws my cal budget over a little? or should I eat more for dinner (I had dinner at around 7 pm ) and go over my budget again? will it sabotaging my weightloss?

    Perhaps look at what you're eating for dinner and try to get good foods that will sustain you for the evening like some protein. If this is all ok, I would suggest trimming calories out of other areas through the day to save yourself for enough to have a snack around this sort of time.

    To some extent you will be sabotaging your weight loss, but a way around this is just to do an extra 5minutes or so on the days that you do exercise so you don't have to exercise every day. Your goal is weekly, so if you are under one day and over another, so long as you end up under for the week. Good luck

    A little snack won't sabatoge your weight loss, since MFP sets you at a deficit. You might not lose as much, but you'd have to eat over your deficit that's already built in in order to sabatoge and gain.

    yeah ok I understand, i thought that what I was eating for dinner wasn't enough nutritious and it probalby the case, i'll try to manage my calorie budget bettter this way it should fix the problem...

    I would chose something low cal to snack on. If a glass of water or green tea doesn't do it, I feel you are better off to eat a small amount of something than be miserable. I just try to stay within range, so some days I am a little over and others I may be a little under.

    Drink water. It'll trick your stomach. :D

    Seriously, you really shouldn't be eating anything after 9pm so that your body isn't still working to digest as much food when you go to bed.

    I didn't exercise until recently, but I always stayed within my calories if I could. When I messed up once in a while, it didn't seem to effect my loss. However, since I have had so much to lose, I've had a long time to figure out foods that "hold" me so that I'm not hungry at night. When I stay away from processed or bagged/boxed foods during the day, I'm not as hungry at night... It takes about a week or so and you'll be amazed at how much different you'll feel. The processed foods made my hunger almost unbearable (like headaches, grouchiness, stomach ache, feeling sick to my stomach. Once I cut that stuff out from my daytime schedule, my hunger wasn't even that bad. Then if I had calories left at night I'd have the goodies like a few chips, or a Hershey's kiss. If all my calories are gone, I can still have a mug or two of hot tea, which is more satisfying than you'd think. You could also have a sugar free jello, or celery. No on gets fat on too much celery. So, eat more veggies during the day... you'll be less hungry and have more calories left for evening.

    i'm just starting watching what i eat in MFP so i'm not really use to spreading a cal budget lol I 'll get used to it.. and I've tried water yesterday and I didn't work but I've taken a couple of sip of chocolate milk low fat just to be able to sleep and this morning I was crazy hungry!!! but I'll try to eat more veggies during the day to leave me calories in the evening... and I have a lot to lose too! it's been only 5 days and I already feel a lot better than before! so far the week was great had no major hunger and was dealing great with calorie budget but i was training all the others days so I guess it's a getting used to thing...

    The answer probably depends on how often you don't exercise. I never exercise in Monday's because I have an evening commitment and I have no time. I eat the same on that day as every other day so I'm always over on calories. This has not derailed my plans. But if I did this 3 or 4 days a week instead of 1 then it might.

    I don't exercise for one or two days a week only which is thursday and friday ... so I'll work around it and I if I go over a little will be okay I guess. It's just that I want this so much that i don't want to sabotage my plan and I know that i shouldn't be eating after 9 pm so I was really wondering, but like julief11 said maybe i need to manage differently during the day and have more veggies during the day so that I have more calories at night

    maybe you could give yourself a few extra calories on those days buy going up and dopwn stairs a few times or get off the bus a stop earlier etc, just a little thing like that will stop it mattering so much if you go slightly over your cals.
    i'm going to be doing stuff like this for the next week as it is half term and i'm pretty sure the toddlers won't want to be going on dailly 3 mile walks lol

    You really should be taking at least one rest day. It's on rest days when you actually get stronger from your workouts as your body has time to repair the damage you're doing in every workout.
