If she has that severe of a peanut allergy, wouldn't she have allergies to other types of legumes and tree nuts as well? I mean, substitutes would kind of be moot at this point. Kiss all the butters good bye.

Eta: my kid has a peanut allergy (class 2 not as severe as the breath thing) but also is allergic to tree nuts, soy, peas and seeds.

All allergies are not the same. My 14 year old is allergic to tree nuts (although not cashews which is funny but the dr said not to even mess with that), but she LOVES peanut butter.

Peanuts are a legume, which is in a completely different category than the tree nuts, so in many cases one can be allergic to one category but not the other. (Unfortunately Odes angel your kid spans across multiple categories).

Trader Joes always has good tasting foods. I'm not sure what the cross contamination factor is for peanuts, though. As far as making your own nut butter, I'd highly recommend it to be the safest, but I'm not sure that I would do it in a store for cross-contamination issues. If you have a food processor, it only takes a couple of minutes to make a nut butter. (I have a ninja...love that thing)

Have you asked her what she prefers? Why does it have to be life without peanut butter for you? If she has a peanut butter allergy, she has to learn to say no to anything containing peanuts. You can't just remove it from life for her so denying yourself peanut butter doesn't really accomplish anything, in my opinion. Have your jar of peanut butter in a different cupboard than her almond butter (or whatever she likes).

Peanut oil even soaks through peoples skin, you can't have it in the same house!

I use Wow butter as my son has an allergy. Tastes almost as good, I still grieve at times though SOB

Cookie butter is absolutely addicting. It's amazing.

Almond butter is phenomenal too. I suggest "Justin's Almond Butter". It's a little pricey, but, it's great. Best flavor is the vanilla flavored, imo.

Check your local Wal-Mart, Target, or Kroger's for "Justin's Almond Butter"

I like sunflower seed butter, but it is higher calorie and more savory tasting than peanut butter.

Any number of other peanut butters are also completely delicious: hazelnut, cashew, sunflower, almond. I personally don’t find the brand to make that big of a difference, so if I were you I’d just try out the tiny jars of the various kinds to see what I like.

I have a nut allergy as well - came on later in life - and let me tell you, nothing is as good as the real thing. I prefer SunButter or any type of sunflower alternative to the soy alternatives. The soy butters tend to be really grainy and leave a funky after taste.

If you are looking for peanut free substitutes, our favorites are Trader Joe's sunflower butter or Barney Butter almond butter (we buy at Whole Foods or Meijer). Kirkland almond butter from Costco is also peanut free and tastes good, but it's a little runny. I love to drizzle it on apples, but its a little runny for a sandwich. Two of my kids are peanut allergic, so we only buy the ones they can eat. All the others I've seen are made in a facility with peanuts or may contain peanuts.
