I use the six star whey isolate in rich chocolate from Wal-Mart because honestly, I'm broke. It is $20 a container I think...? That is all we can afford right now. I used to use a lean protein for women from GNC when I was in the Navy, but it was super spendy for a little bag. I don't think the six star is too bad and I'm not really expecting gourmet from my protein shake. I really do notice a difference from when I wasn't adding that after my runs as far as soreness goes. It is worth a shot! I will look for that article later today!

    Thank you.

I never worry if I'm going over my other macros as long as I reach my protein ones. But I enjoy protein shakes.

I keep a "community" tub at work of the Wal-Mart stuff. Nothing wrong with it in my opinion. I'm not particularly fond of the taste, but that's subjective.

It's only $15 at my local Walmart, that's why I looked into it actually. I just finished college so I'm kind of broke myself! Lol

Protein is 4 calories per gram. So 30 grams of protein will be 120 calories. Add in any dietary fat and carbohydrates, and this figure can be more. With protein powder, most hover around 110 -180 TOTAL calories per scoop, and about 18-30 grams protein on average (including any added dietary fat and carbs). The dietary fat and carb values will differ among the brands, but the amount is usually negligible. Don't get caught up in minute details like this... Flavor and cost should be your prime focus.

Budget protein powders like Six Star, and those sold in Walmart are awful tasting and are notorious for causing greater gastric distress (per reviews). Certain brands spike their protein powder with amino acids like Glycine and Taurine to boost the stated protein content. The label might say 30 grams of protein, but with the added aminos, you're really only getting something like 19 grams. The budget brands that sell for a ridiculously low price are usually more susceptible to spiking than other brands. You get what you pay for in most cases. Just be careful when reading the label to catch any ingredient ending in -ine.

Bodybuilding.com and Getrippednutrition.com are good sites with decent prices. They regularly have sales and both accept coupon codes.
I like body fortress it doesnt taste nasty. six star i found to be nasty. but a lot of those products that are "padded" are now having to make changes to their products from what I read. BF went from 30g or protein per scoop to 20,(you can still find some older containers with the higher amounts). I have noticed a LOT of some the expensive brands spike their products also. its all trial and error when it comes to taste though. some will like the cheaper brands others will not.I would buy single serve packets if possible and go from there.
