new to the office lunch life

I have recently began a job working in an office. It is my first office job. Everything until now how been physical labor so I already feel at risk not running around all day like Im use to so as part of an attempt to adjust to the life style change I need some healthy low cal but filling lunch ideas. Salads get old after a while lol.

    I'm not for low cal necessarily as long as it fits in my daily needs. I love leftover grilled chicken with 1/2 cup lentils cucumber tomato feta red onions and red wine vinegar. Super filling Greek salad.

    What about turkey burgers with/without bun can be eaten on a salad, in a wrap...I have a great recipe for one and can be made ahead.

    Get creative! Think about what protein option you want and build around it.

    I do rice and beans alot. I almost always have rice and beans at home, and then throw in whatever leftovers are in the fridge.

    One of my coworkers used to do one salad mostly spinach/tomato with dressing and one teriyaki chicken breast which she made a weeks worth in a crock pot at home, all the time, except for Fridays when she would get a burrito. She woke up every morning to run at 5 AM She'd also have a large container of water with time marked out on it. Like by 9 AM she had to have drunk so much by noon, so much by 3 PM etc.
    During the winter she would occasionally do the same with soup for half the week that she made a home and then salad/chicken the rest of the week.
    She also would never eat a whole dessert, she would bring in cupcakes for everyone once a month, and cut them all in half for us.
    She would also have one coffee from the cafe downstairs.

    I make chicken breast in the crockpot on weekends with sodium free chicken seasoning. I take 3 oz for lunch and have a Flatout wrap with the chicken. It is boring but I have taken chicken in one form or another for years. You can add lettuce, onions, tomatoes, whatever...also I usually have steamable veggies or cooked zucchini and squash. You can also get deli meat but it has so much sodium. There are some decent low cal breads now but I like the wraps. Also I take lots of watermelon, strawberries and blueberries. Just experiment around with what you like but opt for low cal. I also keep Healthy Choice meals in the freezer at work for some days. Good luck!

    This is a really good question as I'd really like to change my lunches up a bit. I've been having the brown sandwich thins (supermarket own brands seem to be lower calorie) with extra light cheese triangle (instead of butter or spread) with a couple of slices of ham. To vary it a bit from day-to-day, I'll add lettuce, cucumber and any other salad bits I have in the fridge. I'll then have a low cal packet of crisps. Makes me feel like I'm not sticking out like a sore thumb with "diet food"! :)

    I poach chicken often too. I like Rachael Ray's recipe. You get poached chicken and chicken broth from the process. Then you can make soup or salad with the results. rachaelray.com/recipes/poached-chicken

    When I worked in an office I use to bring frozen meals and a side salad. In winter I would bring homemade soup and a salad. I don't buy many frozen meals any more too much sodium. I use to love santa fe rice and beans, so I make it at home now. It make six big portions.     I make a big batch of chicken every Sunday, and have it M-F ~ along with it I will make some sort of salad, this week it is chopped greek salad (tomatos, cukes, onions, garbanzo beans, feta, yellow pepper olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt & basil)..........In the morning I have a mocha coffee protein shake with either eggs, oatmeal, etc ~ I eat fruit for snacks :)

    @LLNN122 ~ yes, I make it in advance. I don't use lettuce, and the veggies I do use seem to do just fine! At least I have not had any problems :)

    I just make an extra portion of whatever I had for dinner the night before. I plate it up in a container as I am plating my meal. It's usually better the second day anyway.

    This week was rotisserie chicken (store had them on sale and i was too lazy to make my own) with a little bbq sauce and caramelized onion, brown rice with a little spinach and sauteed yellow bell pepper, and steamed broccoli, and cherries for dessert. rounded out to about 450 cals. Meal prepping helps me control what I eat, and it works for me!
