Fresh Beets - Wasn't prepared for this...

After seeing lots of recipes, I finally roasted some fresh beets and marinated the leftovers to use in salads. I knew that beets had a lot of natural red "dye" in them, but the after-effects were ALARMING. They color lasted in my urine and stool for four days and I was almost ready to see my doctor. After a LOT of water, the color finally washed out of my system.

Anyone else experience these results?

I've never had it last that long, but definitely experienced that (I used to have a juicer and made apple/beet/carrot juice a lot). I think you're probably fine :)

That's a natural result of beets. I don't believe it is harmful, in fact it is a good way to see how well your digestive system is working.

    Yes. Normal, but scary nonetheless!

lol, yep. It's bad enough seeing the pink urine in the toilet where it is mixed with lots of water. I freaked one day after seeing it in my kids potty. I thought there was something seriously wrong until I realised it was just really pink because there is no water in there to dilute the colour.

It's not bad for you though - in fact beets are super healthy.

Yup and mine was even darker cause I juiced them.

Yep! I have vivid memories of freaking out as a four or five-year-old kid after eating pickled beets for the first time.

(Not as gross as the color that some grape sodas turn poop!)
