I'm making my grocery list for tomorrow. Now that I am trying to eat healthier it is a great time to start getting my family back on track. Plus I am getting sick of the same ole meals.
-What are some of your staple items when you go shopping?
-Any great recipes you could share (simple or complex, I love to cook).
-I would also love any great grilling ideas as well. Love this time of year!
Thanks in advance!~

okay... I always get tilapia! ( i cook it under the broiler with dijon mustard and some dill)
I always get ground pork or chicken... and with that I make meat muffins- so easy... 500g of ground pork, 1 egg, 1 cup of oats, 1 cup of salsa... it's amazing. my itty bitties love it and so does hubby!0 -
Chicken Breast, lean ground turkey, fresh fruit and veggies, low fat milk - 1% or skim are some good starters.0

Staples for me are beans. I make hummus weekly and eat it with cucumbers as a snack or on a pita as a sandwich. I made sun-dried tomato and basil hummus this week.0

chicken breast, turkey ( burgers, ground meat), lean proteins, fish, salads, fruits, veggies, brown rice, tunafish, almond milk, or fat free milk, frozen fruit for protein shakes,......0

A good organic or free range ground turkey. I use that a lot. I use bonless/skinless chicken too. (again organic or free range) I don't see a need to buy meats with anitboticis and added hormones.
Spring Mix lettuce
Light string cheese
I only buy in season fresh veggies (as much as possible)
I like Kellogs Cracker Chips (they are yummy instead of reg potato chips)
And my vice is now Skinny cow icecream anything
organic eggs
Light whole wheat bread
turkey sausages0 -
I got this pan from Bed Bath and Beyond. It has holes in it for grilling. I LOVE IT.
Here is the link to see what it looks like.

Grilled Asparagus with light Italian dressing and garlic. It is awesome.
I grill all my vegetables in it now. Believe it or not grilled cauliflower is very good. They just come out so tasty.0 -
veggie pasta made with whole wheat pasta, eggpalnt, tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, parmasean cheese. so good. i always get sandwich flats from target. 100 calories per flat. i make sandwiches with it using pb&j, lunch meat, egg salad, veggie pattys (morning star asain veggie pattys). for sides my standbys are carrots and lite ranch. pirates booty aged white cheddar puffs. chips and salsa. lite string cheese. i always get a few boxes of annies brand macaroni and cheese. it's all natural and about 70% organic. i buy annies brand crackers, too. i feed the crackers to my daughter, too (shes 16 months). i also give her diced fruit packed in water, nitrate free lunch meat, earths best brand (organic) baked chicken nuggets and waffles.0

My best advice is to shop only the perimeter of the store - fresh produce, dairy, meats and try to limit yourself from going down too many aisles as they are filled with processed foods that are horrible for you.0

I always get fish - I like salmon - baked, chicken breast, ground turkey, turkey breakfast sausage or turkey bacon, no fat cottage cheese, greek yogurt, baby spinach, celery, carrots, green onions, broccoli, eggs, black beans, tomatoes, melon, strawberries or blueberries, low calorie whole grain bread, tuna fish, soy milk, high fiber cold cereal, light soy milk, lemon and limes to go with my soda water - my nightly treat - as opposed to diet coke.
It is hard to find ways to change it up and we get in the habit of eating the same things every day - but I have found having fresh fruits and veggies on hand my salads are always delicious and I adjust the protein added to them and put fruits and nuts with them and I love light vinaigrette dressings for my greens. When fresh veggies and fruits are too expensive or not in season I head to the frozen section - I like to keep frozen veggies on hand because they make it easy for a soup or stew - and I just add some leftover protein - chicken, ground turkey, even breakfast sausage and a can of tomatoes and chicken broth heat through and enjoy - My husband enjoys this the most and would eat it 5 days a week.0 -
Let me start by saying I broil all my meat or cook on George Foreman. I use a lot of raw veggies and fruit and organic if I can find it. Staying away from processed foods really helps weight loss and health.
*Tilapia & Shrimp raw so you can stir fry or broil
*Black Beans & Fresh Salsa
*Perdue Ground Chicken - you can add any spice packet to it and it tastes amazing as burgers
*Yellow Peppers - are really sweet so they are good raw or in stir fry
Onion, Mushrooms, Spinach - also good in stir fry ( I sometimes put a little olive oil in a pan and put spinach in just until wilted and then add lemon juice, salt & pepper)
*Chicken Breasts, Pork Chops (lean), Turkey Bacon
* Healthy Ones lunchmeat Chicken, Turkey or Ham from Deli
*Silk Almond Milk Vanilla for protein shake or Oatmeal
*Meijer Organic Oatmeal packets - delicious and filling for breasfast. I add a little water and 1/4 cup almond milk
* Bananas, Cherries, Grapes, Melons
*Hearts of Romaine Lettuce
* Kens Sweet Vidalia Onion (LITE) dressing
* Extra Virgin Olive Oil
* Edys fruit popsickles Strawberry, Pineapple, Acai Blueberry, Lime - oh so good and not many calories
* Blue Diamond Almonds with sea salt or the cocoa ones
* Batth Fancy Raisins
Hope these ideas help ya0
