Morning coffee issues and decaf

For a while I decided i wasn't going to cut my morning coffee as part of any healthy lifestyle, its my treat and a good pick me up when the office is cold. I enjoy an instant coffee (maybe shameful) with milk.
The problem is, I think it makes me feel a little unwell/shaky. I think it's the caffeine as tea often gives me headaches too. I think its daft to keep drinking it if its actually a bad start to the day.
Has anyone had any success with decaf? I have a drawer full of fruit teas but they just don't cut it as my 'treat' in the morning. Am I missing any other good hot drink options? Are there any health issues with decaf?

I'm not a big fan of decaf, simply because I don't see the point, but I love tea and experiment with a lot of the more robust ones. One I've tried recently was a Roasted Barley Chai, no caffeine but lots of flavour, very dark tea. Good with milk or without.0

Try hot chocolate, that may feel more like a "treat" than teas.0

Caffiene withdrawal takes a few days to get over. Fun fact: my dad swapped my mom's regular for decaf without telling her and she thought she was pregnant.0

Have you tried chocolate tea? It's super good and I believe is also herbal?0

I try to only have caffeine every other day from a regular sized coffee beverage. If I'm ordering a very large one, I'll try to order half caf and call it my caffeine for the day. The other days I just about always have some form of decaffeinated coffee to satisfy my cravings, and honestly I feel like it tastes no different. If you're used to espresso and switch to decaf coffee, it may taste less sweet only because it's coffee, not espresso; there may be decaf espressos out there, I'm not really sure to be honest. If you don't mind spending a little calories I have also fallen in love with some decaffeinated powdered cappuccino mix powders out there, too, they come in so many flavors!
Just do what works for you. If caffeine is causing you issues (it makes me feel shaky and paranoid if I have too much), then either try out decaf or try skipping it altogether and use your calories elsewhere.0 -
I would suggest drinking it slowly. Also, if you take fish oil or other healthy fats with it, my belief is that it slows the uptake of the caffeine hence the popularity of Bulletproof coffee. (Its a coffee blended with oils and grass-fed butter.) I've tried it before and it really does stunt the anxiety and jitters of too much coffee.
Currently, I take my fish oil and vitamin D with my coffee. I like to think they help each other out.0 -
Some people apparently metabolise caffeine differently and feel a more pronounced effect. If that's you, drink less caffeine.
True: cheap coffee (made with Robusta beans or blends of same) can have almost twice the caffeine as good coffee made from 100% Arabica beans.
Try a really good coffee ACD see how that effects you. Still bothered? Drink decaf.0 -
Thanks, Yeah I've noticed Coffee actually can make me very anxious and it seems I'm not the only one.
I'm interested in that bulletproof coffee, I'll look it up and a few suggestions that I haven't tried yet. I could never really figure out if it was the milk or caffeine but as green tea has similar side effects for me, it must be the caffeine.
