Hi all,
Im a 49 yr old man from western Australia and started mfp as a new years resolution.
Close friends lost quite a bit of weight using it along with regular exercise. I finally bit the bullet and decided enough was enough having stacked on the weight in last 5-10 yrs.
I was 115kgs (sorry we are metric over here) and approaching 50 years old. Cholesterol climbing just as steadily as weight. Anyway, chose goal as 1kg a week at 6280 kilojoules.
I have a sedentary lifestyle. Its now july and my last weigh in was 87.5kgs :-)
I have done zero exercise as I didnt want my weight loss to be exercise dependant but am now ready to start an exercise program.
In this time I have had a 3 week vacation where I didnt bother logging food. And another short weekend away where again I ate like there was no tomorrow.
I am buying jeans off the rack for the first time in decades and finding the sales girls are happy to chat instead of looking at me like I've just rolled in sewage.
When people ask what my secret is I say for me its all about mindset. I believe im in love with or addicted to "eating food", not to food itself. I treat this like i did when i gave up smoking. Only difference is you dont have to go cold turkey with food.
I do believe however that for me its about relearning healthy lifestyle habits. For me the occasional binge is akin to the "occasional" cigar and just as dangerous for an addict. Im still a smoker even though i havent had one in 24 years and I'll still be an eating addict when I'm 80 kgs and running half marathons.
Everyone's different but I hope my journey helps someone.
God its good to feel in control of myself after so many years of feeling like a helpless victim of my bodies urges.
Good luck everyone!!
Cheers
Aussie Rob
