1 lb of fat = how many calories?

How many calories will I have to burn, to lose 1 lb of body fat. Does this even make sense?

    3500 calories...so about 500 less calories taken in a day = 1 pound loss a week

    The "standard" for that equation is 3500 calories to burn 1 lb of fat.

    3500 is used on MFP to make the weekly calculations easier.
