I seem to really be struggling when it comes to the weekends. When I'm not in my normal routine (I'm a teacher so I don't work weekends) I feel like I ruin everything I did the past week. I'm finding it soooo difficult to figure out the balance. Once Friday hits I've been starting to get stressed out because I'm scared that I'll over eat. I have a history with binge eating disorder, which is what prompted me to use MFP in the first place, and I started off doing really well. Just lately I've been falling off, then becoming discouraged because I'm feeling like I'm starting over on that next Monday?
Just looking for support/motivation/advice. Feel free to add me if you would like, as well.

I struggle with Weekends too, you're not alone.
You've made a great start so you need to stay positive ( easier said than done, I know)
How about structuring your weekend like you do mon - fri ??
Write out a timetable to focus on.
Set time to wake up; exercise; eat; relax; socialise; me time; work planning / marking; cooking; decorating; volunteering; hairdresser; clothes shopping; gardening.
Do things you enjoy, it's your weekend.
Leave a free afternoon every other week to do something crazy with friends!

Hey Ciara, I'm the same. It's helped treating myself to a binge meal at the weekend, eases the pressure. I'm on a low carb diet and I've found it hard - will power is key x0

I also struggle more on the weekends. At work I take all my food, I'm busy/distracted etc. On the weekends I can mindlessly roam for food, get influenced by my DH (who eats like a garbage disposal), there are social occasions with food etc. Plus I have a strong association that weekend = wine + comfort food.
I empathize with the binge eating as well. It's been my primary issue over the years. I'm trying to combat it by eating with others (I would binge alone and hide the evidence) and logging all my food before I eat it. I try to store up some calories through the week (extra deficit of 100-200) to allow myself a higher calorie meal than usual. I still aim for something healthy as opposed to junk, I often go for avocado, fetta and eggs on sourdough. Then I feel like I've treated myself without really blowing out. I'm also trying to find other behaviours to adopt. I would often binge on Friday nights - wine, a whole wheel of brie in front of the TV etc. Now I go to yoga and take a hot bath when I get home. I really miss the wine and cheese but it has to stop and I can't portion control those items.
It's hard, it's a constant mental battle but I'm getting there. Alcohol is a major trigger for binges for me, so I'm not keeping it at home and if we're out I volunteer to drive so I just sit on one glass of red wine for the evening.

Your logging is pretty inconsistent and your calorie goal looks set quite low.
What is your weight loss goal set to? Over-restricting yourself is not going to help if you have a history of bingeing - binges will be more likely if your body is hungry. A healthy rate of loss to aim for is 0.5 to 1 lb per week; this will give you a higher calorie goal that should be easy to stick to.
As you struggle more at the weekends when you are not in a routine, it may help to give yourself a higher calorie goal at the weekends and a lower goal on week days. It would still be advsiable to log accurately and stick to these goals, but will give you wiggle room for a bit more indulgence at the weekend.0 -
I'm a yo yo dieter too! Have been since high school since I felt like I was trying to keep up with everyone else who was better looking. Thankfully I have gotten out of that stage and have accepted how I am currently and just slowly but surely working towards where I really want to be weight wise and know that it's not going to all fall off in a week or two. You may want to get out of the house and away from your food source on weekends. If you are getting out of the house make a portion controlled meal you can take with you to avoid restaurant binging.0

Most monday to friday people have a routine. so its easy to stick to that during the week. its ths weekends when they have little to do or just do whatever that they struggle. Find something you are passionate about and make it a weekend routine. Make a small change each week. Many small changes one at a time make a huge difference to both being consistent and making longer lasting lifestyle changes. If you need help to stay motivated or get stuck there are plenty of really cool people who are more than happy to help out. ☺0
