I am now the queen of maintaining. I have not lost a pound for almost a year. I am Not sure what to do. I have lost 57 pounds. I exercise 5 days a week. I have changed up my exercise over the past couple of months. I thought maybe I was not losing because I was in an exercise rut. But since I have changed my exercise I have not lost anything. I am beginning to get really frustrated but I still stay on my diet. I don't eat my most of my exercise calories I eat about half of them and leave half. Am i eating enough? I am however in a eating rut I like to eat the same thing every day for the most part. Dinner is the only meal that is different each day. I know I do not eat nearly enough fruits and vegetables. I stay away from fruit because I am a type 2 diabetic and my blood sugars have a real problem with eating fruit. I try to eat a lot of veggies at dinner just so I could feel full come the evening and not snack on things I shouldn't have. Do any of you have any suggestions? I am at a loss at what direction to go in. Is it my food INTAKE? Is it my exercise?

Honestly I think its just your calories which is the problem. Do you use a food scale?

I can't see your diary so this is only speculation... How much water do you drink? You could be dehydrated. Plus are you weighting your food? Could be your are eating more than you realize. Also is your blood sugar under control? Maybe you need to step up your weight training? Just some suggestions. Hope this helps:) good luck to you:)

You have to look at your data...be realistic about your activity level/calories burned, make sure you're weighing everything and logging everything. You're in maintenance. Just gotta get out and you'll lose.

It's most likely that you are underestimating how many calories you are taking in. You've had great success with weight loss up until getting stuck, so you probably know this question is coming :)

Do you log everything you eat, and do you weigh your food?

I do log everything I eat. But I have not been really good about weighing my food. I figured after doing this for two years that I can eyeball and have a good idea of what what the portion should look like. Perhaps I should go back to weighing my food.

As for my blood sugars they are perfect! I am no longer on medication to keep my blood sugar under control. My doctors are really pleased on how I have controlled my diabetes. They wish they all their patients that would follow orders like I have. Quite frankly when I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 years ago it scared the crap outta me so I got really serious with keeping my eating in control and exercising as I should. The only sugar I now eat will be some mom's in the evening. And I keep my carbs at a minimum during the day. At dinner I like to try to eat mostly protein and some veggies and occasionally brown rice.

I am faithful and honest regarding my logging. I would only be fooling myself if I didn't log what I actually ate. But I think I probably need to start weighing my food again. I just need to find my scale.

Have you re-adjusted your calorie goal at all since losing 57 pounds? Yes, you need a scale. That is a MUST. If you're truly weighing everything, logging accurately, and are in a true calorie deficit, i would go see a doctor.

I think I'm being fairly realistic with my calorie burn I use what is said on the machines I work out on at the gym minus about 75 calories I find them I'll be a little high. For the past 6 weeks I have been going to Jazzercise 3 days a week. I'm not exactly sure how to calculate the burn for that. I use my runtastic app but I find it also to be a little high so I subtract about 50-75 calories from that total.
I also don't eat all exercise calories in hope it would compensate for any calorie logging error. Clearly, it hasn't worked. :(

This is almost always, where you will find the answer. If you're not weighing, you have no way of knowing if it's accurate.

You're right I need to find of my scale and start weighing again. After 2 years I figured I was able to eyeball it enough without having to use the scale. But clearly my eyeballs are just seeing way too much. ;) As you could tell by my profile,i f you've looked it. I have logged in over two years of food and exercise I'm a little obsessive compulsive with it. I even logged my food intake and exercise when I was on vacation at Disneyland. Going to Disneyland again at the end of this month I had hope to have lost at least 5 to 10 pounds by then but it doesn't look like it's going to happen I guess all I can hope for is not to gain anything while I am there.

    Yes.

Also remember that when you lose weight, you might need to drop the number of calories you consume.

Become meticulous about weighing and logging everything again for the next 2 months, and also drop the number of calories you consume by, say, 50 cal/day.

I have dropped how many calories I eat only once during my weight loss journey. So I will adjust it and go back to weighing my food. I will start when I get back from Disneyland. For now and during my vacation I will hold onto the status quo. BTW I am not only off my diabetes meds but I am off the cholesterol meds too! I am proud of how far I've come and will never go backwards. While I have 40 more pounds to go it is good to know that I can maintain. Thanks everyone!

You've done spectacular work. I am always so inspired by people who have kicked diabetes to the curb!

But I bet you are getting caught in the same trap many of the rest of us have been in. We have been so focused on trying to eat in a healthy way that we really believe we can eyeball and estimate portion sizes.

I am here to tell you now that unless you've been weighing food for so long that it's second nature, your values ARE off. And it's that 100 calories here, 50 calories there that add up faster than you realize and get you stuck.

Weigh your food. You won't regret it. Here. Just to make the point, take a second and view a little video that is much loved here on MFP: https://youtube.com/watch?v=JVjWPclrWVY

Just watched the video.... Wow that was a definite light bulb moment!

    I still can't eyeball

    yes to weighing

or if you want to keep eyeballing - cut back another 250 -500 calories from your total allowance and you might be able to guestimate there

I think that will fix your problem. You should recalculate every 10-20 lbs. Also... don't wait a YEAR of no results before making a change or asking questions! ;)

Sounds like your problem is in box 2. If you're not losing, you need to reassess if you're really in a deficit. The most common problem we see on the forums is people not accurately measuring their food.

I've been trying different things this past year. Since I hadn't been gaining I figured my food was fine. So I focused on exercise. I had been doing the same exercise the whole time 4 days elliptical a day or two walking. Started doing HIIT with elliptical and start3s to lose again! But then it stopped. Tried something else but nothing happened. So here I am a year later.
