So I am diabetic and have started a journey to end diabetes in my life. I am currently 300 pounds and in the near future will have the gastric sleeve surgery but before then I have to loose a little weight and get my glucose levels under control. THANKS!

I wish you the best of luck and wanted to tell you that there are many diabetics on this site who need friends. If you don't get a response right away then re post your request for friends. Also check out the groups. I do believe there are groups with similar medical issues.0

Hi Scott. Are you type one or two diabetic? I'm type two. Since joining this site, losing nearly 20 lbs and taking up running I was able to get my A1C down to 5.8 and last month the doctor took me off Metformin. I'd been on that drug since 2008. I just want to give you a bit of hope that if you're type two you can beat this disease.0

I am type 2 and on insulin. I was 365 pounds when I was diagnosed and was on metformin and other pills. It was under control for a while and I got my weight down to 300 where it is currently. However my condition worsened and I have currently been using levemir for about a month and as of July 4th I have been taking 30 units of novolin at each meal.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've been lucky enough to avoid insulin. So far. In December the doctor wanted to put me on a second medication. My A1C was 7.2. The problem with that drug though is it's linked with causing liver problems. I decided enough was enough and knuckled down to losing weight. It's amazing the difference that has made.0

Hi everyone. I'm also a Type 2 diabetic just diagnosed almost 2 months ago. My A1C was at 11.5 and after losing 22 lbs in that time, my A1C has dropped down to 7.7. If all goes well, I might be off Metformin in 3 months. Proper nutrition and exercise is key. Scott, all I really did to lose 22 lbs in 2 months was walk at least 30 mins a day and lower my carb intake and totally eliminate sugary drinks. Dave and I can do it..so can you. Have a positive mindset, work hard and remember...Eat to live, not live to eat.0

Hi! I'm a type 2 Diabetic and have been since 1990. In 2011 I was finally put on insulin shots. I messed around for years, cheating with sweets and my favorite drink was Diet Pepsi. In December of last year I told my diabetic educator I would quit cheating and be serious about getting my blood sugars under control. I stopped eating sweets, stopped drinking Diet Pepsi and only drink water with an occasional decaf coffee or decaf tea. I weighed 418 lbs. when I started. I have lost 56 lbs. so far and my blood sugars run around 95-120. I know if you set your mind to it you can do it! I wish you the best of luck!0

Hi, I'm Rosie and i just found out yesterday I'm pre diabetIc, so I'm here to support and be supported! I've got a few friends / co-workers who've done the sleeve thing, along with my sister. The results seem to depend on commitment from what I've seen. If you're determined and committed you're going to make it happen, and i hope you do!0
