Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone had any really good tips for staying motivated. I've been dieting off an on since I was 11 or 12 and just never seem to be able to stick with to really reach my weight goals. I always seem to lose motivation and give up.

Any Suggestions???

Thanks,

The key is to not diet. Make good food choices every day. This doesn't mean you deprive yourself just limit amounts and frequency of the poor choices. If you are dieting it is hard to stick to but if you change your eating habits for life you can stick to it. Good luck!

Hi....for me personally, I've never dieted. Anytime I've lost weight it's been because I've started eating healthier and used portion control. I would highly recommend both of those along with exercise and fill your mind with the positive aspects of healthy living vs. the negative thoughts, such as, I hate exercise or I can't do this. Your mind is a POWERFUL tool and it can make or break you. Good luck on your journey and remember to love yourself enough to live a healthy life! :flowerforyou:

One thing that I do is i take pictures front, side and back every two weeks - while the back to back weeks might not show much change, when I get discouraged, I put the first week and most recent week side by side and stare at it a while - seeing a visual difference sometimes (especially when it's not necessarily showing on the scale) can be motivating =)

    Good Luck!

Dont think of this as a "DIET" - make it a lifestyle change and decide to make a healthy habit change.
Don't deprive yourself of things, just make portions smaller.
Find an activity to love to do and use that as your exercise so it doesn't feel like work.
Log into MFP regularly and track it all.
Get friends and take advantage of the support system they offer.

Lastly... do this for yourself and enjoy it....you are more likely to succeed if you really like what you are doing.

When you "diet" it implies that things are temporary. No dieting here. I needed a lifestyle change. I eat healthy on a daily basis now. You just have to take one day at a time and use the tools available to you.

I agree with the lifestyle change as opposed to diet. Take baby steps to improve your diet/food you eat. Really pay attention to how you feel when you eat and after you eat. Savor what you eat. Eat to live not live to eat. When I am eating a "sometimes" food, like cheesecake for my birthday, I really take my time to enjoy it and not race to finish it. I don't feel deprived when I leave most of it on the plate. The first bite is the most enjoyable...after that, too much sugar makes me feel ick.

I also try to eat like a thin person. How do they eat? What do they eat?
  • Thanks for the responses!!! I will def keep all of this in mind as I start on my new lifestyle/life remodeling journey!!! :D
