Memorial Day 5k

I bought a pair of Vibram FiveFinger Bikilas in April and got them towards the second to last week of April. I started a light regimen, running about 1 mile a day three times a week for the first 2 weeks, then building up to 2 miles a day 4 days a week for two weeks. Currently, my cardio regimen looks like the following:
Monday-3 mile pyramid intervals 1:2 on track
Tuesday-2 mile circuit
Wednesday-break (due to leg weight training day
Thursday-attempt to do 5k around neighborhood (normally turns into 2 miles though)
Friday-2 mile hill run
Saturday-60m Cross-training (25m bike, 20m elliptical, 15m treadmill)
Sunday-break
Today was the first time I ran on hardened pavement in my VFFs. I ran a 5k (3.2 miles) in 28:34. That's the best time I've logged to-date on a 5k (I'm sure there have been better times in the past, but none recorded). Not to mention I did this in a minimalist running shoe that is very nearly barefoot running!
I'm just proud of myself and thought I'd share

That's awesome!! You deserve to be proud of yourself
On a side note, I totally want to get a pair of Vibrams some day. Maybe a reward for reaching my goal weight?0 -
Way to go!0

Why 'reward' yourself with something that could help you reach that weight goal?!? Get on vibramfivefingers.com and look at those bad boys (girls). If you have a Facebook, search for Vibram Five Fingers and click like on the page with the profile picture of the guy doing hanging leg raises in VFFs. The KEY to a good transition is gradually allowing yourself to get used to the new movement. I avoided treadmills like the plague when I learned that they could reinforce improper stride while wearing VFFs. My first few runs, I'd hit the half-way point and switch to my regular shoes. It worked for me, but it's suggested to cut your runs to 10% for 2 weeks in VFFs and increase by 10% every two weeks...0
