I have read mixed opinions on weighing daily or weekly, and so I'm pretty confused about when to weigh... sometimes my weight is quite diff one day to the next, but I feel on my body that I'm losing and definitely am losing, but why is it so different sometimes?

I think it depends on what you read into that number.

I can do both. If I go daily and one day it's higher it makes me think about what I ate and did the day before. I dont' obsess over the number for that day. I kinda take an avg.

Weekly at most. Don't do daily, it'll drive you crazy with the fluctuations.

Weigh yourself weekly or twice weekly at the max. Weighing more than that can be frustrating because your weight will fluctuate daily, depending on your water retention or what your body is still processing from the food earlier.

I used to weigh weekly and then when I got close to my goal I started weighing almost every day. DO NOT DO THAT!!! I had met my goal weight 3 days ago, so today I decided to weigh myself and I gained 1.6 lbs. I have been bummy all day due to it. I wish I never started weighing everyday or every few days bc it is DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!!

Weekly is best, and it's usually best to do it at the same time of day. I prefer to weigh first thing in the morning before I eat anything. Your weight will fluctuate so much with water weight and what you eat from day to day, including whether you've had a bowel movement. That could drive you nutso!
  • You are all so SMART :)

I am sooooo addicted to weight loss - meaning that I weigh myself two or three or more times a day. It's ridiculous but I can't stop.

Weekly..... The numbers in between your weekly weigh ins can just drive you crazy, and I think a loot of people then make knee jerk reactions....

If you stick to your eating plan, exercise plan and numbers then just give your body time to do it's thing.....I know people that has so much trust in what they do they only weigh once a month - that is when you know you have the monster beaten

I weigh every morning at the same time and write it down. It keeps me on track to see what I do from day to day. I can go back several years to see what I weighed at any given date - of course I'm anal retentive!

I weigh daily but only because I'm fascinated by how the body works. I weighed myself the other day and lost 3lbs. I'm only on a 2lbs/week program, so I thought my scale was broke. I wrote a post here and many folks told me it was probably water. I started thinking about it and sure enough, I was sure that was the reason. I mention only because I'm so intrigued with the whole weight loss process. I suppose the newness will wear off eventually and I'll go to weekly, but for now it's daily.

    I do too.!

To answer the OP's question your body naturally fluctuates from day to day. Heck if you weighed yourself in the morning and then in the evening you would be just as likely to get 2 different weights. I weigh monthly because I focus more on eating right and getting enough exercise day to day. I review my dairy, making sure I am under or close to my sodium and sugar limits. This keeps me focused on making better food choices and not the numbers on the scale. I've been reading that body measurements are likely a better marker so I plan to take my measurements this week. However, I wouldn't recommend weighing more than weekly. If you are doing things right, your body and the way your clothes fit let you know.
  • Thanks all for your very helpful comments... weekly it is!!! Now to pick a day... that could be a whole new post

I weigh weekly.. or sometimes even every two weeks. To me a number is not really that important.. its more about how my clothes look and feel!

Weekly weighing in will give you a true sense of weight loss. There are too many things that factor into daily weight fluctuations.
