What do you do to burn enough?

Hi everyone,

I've seen several posts and comments saying that one technique people use is to only eat the calories they burn. I assume this means burning at least 1200 calories a day. If this is something you do, what exercises do you do and how long does it take? I am trying to figure out if this is something feasible for me to do without spending four hours at the gym.

Thanks!
Courtney

eating the calories you burn isn't JUST about going to the gym. Do the math for how much your body will burn if you were to stay in bed all day. If it's around 1200 calories burned, then you put 1200 calories in. If you then go to the gym and burn 500 calories in cardio workouts, then you can eat a little more to keep those 500 calories... hope this makes sense!
  • Your Body burns calories just for you to live, breathe and your bodily functions. For ladies it varies but its around 1200-1500 calories for an average size woman, plus sizes a bit more. If you eat 1500 calories and your bodily functions ( before exercise) burns 1500 calories then you will maintain your current weight.

If you eat 1500 calories and you increase your daily calorie burn by 500 calories to 2000 a day, then in a week you will lose a pound. (500 x7 = 3500 calories in a pound).

I do 2- 30 min sessions on my stationary bike and 30 day shred also 30 min and burn 1200-1500 calories. So a total of 90 min.

Without exercise I can burn up to 2000 calories a day. Don't worry about burning thousands of calories at the gym! I guarantee just living your burning over 1200 calories in 24 hours.

Yep, you definitely burn more calories just being alive, than we might realize. There are lots of was to get a ballpark figure of what your BMR is, but you can find it here under the "Tools" tab up at the top of the page. I think of it as money in the bank everyday & we get to spend it or save it. And, every time we workout or do something active, it's like a deposit & every time we consume calories it's like spending the money. So, if you can have some saved calories left over at the end of the day, you're doing good!

On that note, even a quick workout, walk or jog around the block or even just going outside to run around with the kids will add some calories back to your bank!
