Hey all! Just found this thread and thought i would join in. I was diagnosed with pcos about 3 years ago. I had quite a few fertility issues and am currently attempting our second child. Ive had every symptom including painful bursting cysts.
My start weight was 280 lbs. i recently started cutring all processed sugar out of my diet and dropped 4.4 lbs in the forst week. Then gained 3 back the second. Ive really started kicking my exercising into gear-hoping that will help!
Whats worked well for all of you? Food and exercise wise?

I'm finding that lifting weights is helping my weight loss MUCH more than cardio alone. I lift 3x a week (full body each time) and then just walk a 2-3 times a week, but it's not an intense walk - I just do it because I enjoy walking outside.

Hi Everyone! I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 25. Almost 5 years later, I've decided that it's time to take control of my life and stop blaming my problems on anyone but myself. I'm super excited that I stumbled amongst this group! It's comforting, in a dark way I suppose, to know that we all have similarities and can share stories.

Hello everyone! I'm 22 and was diagnosed last year. I'm not ttc at the moment but I'm taking metformin to combat the insulin resistance and doxycycline to help with the lovely acne I get. I've just started the low-carb/keto diet this month so it'll be interesting to keep track of it!

Hi all, I'd love to join in! I am 30 (31 next month!) and was diagnosed when I was 19. I've tried everything under the sun, including paleo, which was amazing when I did it, but is completely unsustainable for me, so I'm back to CICO, with a tendency towards lower carbs and higher protein and fat. I just started exercising 2 weeks ago; doing the 30 Day Shred every other day (joint issues force me to not do it daily) and some form of cardio the other days-Just Dance, Zumba on the Wii, long walks, etc. I currently have hypertension that I would love to get off of medication for. I know us PCOSers have a much higher risk of heart attacks, and they run in my family, so I want to combat it as much as possible!

I would love to join in this! I'm 28, diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17. Four year ago I was able to lose 43 lbs but because I didn't do it in a sustainable way (only ate 1100 calories per day, got 90+ minutes of cardio a day, and never ate any exercise calories back), I burned out and gained it all back when life's stresses increased (see my progress MFP post here). Really, really hoping I can keep up my motivation and momentum this time, and turn this around!

    I agree with this!
I used to workout every day (swimming, running, elliptical, zumba) and saw no loss in inches, pounds, or body fat percent. I started doing crossfit 3x a week and being active on other days and I'm finally seeing success.

Not saying that cardio doesn't work for some people, just didn't work for me.

I'd be interested inosting weigh ins, sharing success and recipes, as well as problem solving on here.

What successes did you see when using metformin? What advice can you give a newbie?

Personally, I've been on Metformin since I was diagnosed 10 years ago @ age 18, so I've never tried losing weight without it, so I can't compare the two. However, I do know that when I do what I know I'm supposed to do (like eating right & exercising), and especially if I'm including heavy weight lifting, I lose weight at a normal rate and I haven't found that I need to reduce carbs. This could be because of the Metformin, or it could just be because my insulin resistance is not as much of an issue. I'm really not sure. Metformin did give me some stomach issues at first, but they seemed to settle down after a month or two of taking it, if I'm remembering correctly. Now I don't have any side effects.

I'm game! I was diagnosed three years ago. Knew I had it way before then, but didn't get a competent doctor for several years. Just had our 4th child 11 weeks ago tomorrow! Trying to drop all this baby weight while I've got the bonus calorie burn from nursing.

I've been told it's easiest to adjust one pill at a time. Taking my first tomorrow with breakfast.

I started metformin in april. I had a stomach ache for a week (However, Im anemic as well, so I started a high irn dose at the same time) but stuck with it and can tell a diffierence. No more migraines and a tad more energy. The low dose hasnt done much for me otherwise, so we're talking about increasing it Thursday.

I love the weigh in suggestion. Maybe on sundays we can weigh in, to start off a great monday!

Today was my first met day. I took one pill with breakfast around 10:00 and felt totally fine until around 1. Then I felt queasy, and exhausted. I still did my crossfit wod though and I'm ready for day two. Things can only get better from here!

First check-in for me as well. I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 20 and hadn't done much to manage it. I have been prescribed Metformin but I don't tolerate it well. I am seeing a reproductive endocrinologist next week so I am going to ask about that and any other options.

I agree with the statement about weight-lifting. I am working with a trainer three days a week plus cardio on the elliptical and it's working well for me. I am also on a low calorie, low fat diet. I have cut out alcohol completely and am limiting my carbs. I try to eat every 3-4 hours and I drink at least a gallon of water a day. I bet my co-workers think I have incontinence issues LOL.

SW: 227 (began June 12) My highest weight was around 250 a couple of years ago but I had been stuck in the upper to mid 220s.

I'm Janel. 34, diagnosed with PCOS 19 years ago. Type 2 diabetic. I did not respond to metformin (even at the highest doses of 2000mg a day). Switched to Janumet and low carb. I've lost 22 lbs so far and hoping this is what works long term.
